MSNBC's continuous coverage: Ford, Webb, and the reddest of the red
On MSNBC's continuous political coverage, all week long, an intersting discussion led by Chris Matthews, with UVA's Larry Sabato and CNBC's John Harwood --

First, they discounted small percentage gains in Bush's approval as insignificant. This election, they say, is still moving in a Democratic direction. It was said that Republican insiders are bracing themselves for a rough week next week.

Two, playing the sex card by Senator Allen in Virginia re. Jim Webb's novel, and by Corker in Tennessee with the racist Playboy white girl ad aimed at Harold Ford were seen as possibly giving both those races to the Democrats, putting the Senate majority more into play.

Three, in a very interesting observation, they saw Democrats possibly losing some expected seats -- in Connecticut, for example, because the Republican candidates there are moderate. AND they see Democrats possibly picking up Congressional seats in some reddest of the red Western states because the GOP there nominated wingnut candidates. To put the most hopeful spin on this development, the Far Right may have finally had its day!

1. I've caught bits and pieces today
and have been enjoying those segments. Chuck Todd and Craig Crawford with Matthews now. Two of my favorite pundits :D

2. Call me crazy, but...
I think Alaska's one to watch. Don Young has been getting nothing but negative press up here, and even his huge war chest has become a liability because most of his contributions have come from Big Oil and Outside corporations. Alaskans are in an anti-incumbent, anti-big money mood. Several of our state Republican politicians are under investigation by the FBI for their ties to VECO and the oil companies. Young has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from them in past campaigns. Besides, the rumor is he's about to be indicted for his Abramoff ties.

It's a David-and-Goliath story -- but we all know how well that worked out for Goliath, right?

3. I think that's the phenomenon they were talking about. Looks like...
a good candidate up there, with some momentum. Best of luck!
