"smarter than us" Who is this?
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 10:20 AM by lonehalf
“The Republicans have convinced everyone, not least themselves, that the reason they did so well in 2004 was because of their turnout operation,” she said. “They think they’re smarter than us, and, the truth is, some of us think they’re smarter than us.”

I've never seen any evidence of this.

I've noticed that many here think we might lose. I don't - I think it will be closer than a lot of people on DU do but we will win.

That quote came form a TimesOnLine that also has that sentiment.

1. i don't think they're smarter
just meaner. why assume the fucking idiots know anything?
i think we win the house, and possibly the senate as well.
you can only deflect failure with bullshit so many times and then you're out
of quality bullshit, and left whining about cut & runners and al quada votes democrat.
i've really enjoyed watching allen implode. the jigs up, the repubs have nothing, and in the
event they manage to squeek by now or steal it or whatever, it doesn't change shit. the ship is taking on water, and stay the course hasn't and isn't going to get it done. the best thing that can happen for the gop is for them to lose and get the pressure off of their leaders.

2. getting smarter
The Republican GOTV has historically been a smarter operation than Dems at least since 1994. However, Howard Dean's 50 State Strategy is working. Of course, Republican Administration's and Congress' incompetence has helped swing more voters toward Dems this year. We must work to keep party building going for 2008 and beyond regardless of this year's outcome. We will never be able to reach the level of Repub dirty tricks - that's not our style. Much work needs to be done to educate and involve voters who think Repubs and Dems are the same - just interested in getting or maintaining power instead of serving the needs of the people who "hired" them.

I hope the new Dem Congress will have a big "meet-up" and decide what the basic identity of the party is. The Dem Party is a big tent, but what is and is not negotiable? To keep from being a "do-nothing" Congress, Dems will need to negotiate with Repugs who don't toe their party line (there are some that can say no to Bush and Cheney - besides they're lame ducks now). What should the basic qualifications of the next presidential candidate be? What initiatives will Dems present and in what order of importance?

I'm going to write to each and every Democratic member of the House and Senate and list my non-negotiables and priorities.
