I have $50 to donate to 1-2 candidates - tell me why it should be yours!
Ok, here's some conditions on who I pick:

  1. It must be a US Senate or House Race although if the story is compelling enough I might consider a Governor
  2. It must be a competitive race. If either party is overwhelmingly winning, even the democrat, then I would rather save the money for a race that needs it (Ie - My senator Tom Carper is commanding the lead so I wouldn't want to donate to him, he doesn't need the money. Also don't want to donate to a democrat that's like 30pts behind in the polls)
  3. I have made donations to the following: Jim Webb, Lois Murphy, Chris Carney, Patrick Murphy, Joe Sestak, Ned Lamont, Bob Casey and John Hall. So if that's who you are suggesting, they already received money.
  4. I have $50 left for making donations but could stretch it to $60 if I found 3 candidates who are worthy of a few dollars. I'm not rich, but every dollar helps

1. Hi, LynneSin. I nominate David Sanders, Democratic candidate for

U.S. House in IN-04.

http://www.sandersforcongress.org/

His opponent is Steve Buyer, Republican thug, who refuses to debate Sanders and who has systematically screwed veterans.

The district is solidly red but Sanders has a bedrock decency. He's a biologist at Purdue, quiet-voiced, dedicated. His wife died this past year and he's also father to young children.

I know the field out there is wide and there are many worthy folks, but I nominate David Sanders.

(I love what you're doing.)

2. Congress06.org
go to www.congress06.org and check out the recommendations of PFAW. You can split your donations among as many of the candidates who are listed there. I think it's 10.

3. Hi, Lynne
I nominate Nancy Skinner for your dollars. Although we don't have recent polling, on August 23 she was at 40% to Joe Knollenberg's 44% with a margin of error of 4.9%. This is a 50-50-district. That was before Labor Day and her name has gotten out a lot more since then. People in the Micigan 9th are fed up with Joe, who votes with Bush 93% of the time.

Nancy's central issue is global warming and the environment and her plan would be to take the 6 billion dollars we've been giving to the oil companies and instead give it to the auto companies to help them develop hybrids, fuel cell vehicles, etc. This would help global warming, the economy, the environment and homeland security all at once, making us less reliant on foreign oil.

I've posted her two commercials in the video forum (one with RFK, Jr.) and you can learn more about her stands on the issues at her website: www.skinnerforcongress.com. She's gotten endorsements from Obama, RFK, Jr., Joe Biden and others, although we've had trouble getting any funds from the DCCC, etc., as they don't see this as a competitive race, which it actually is. Joe Wilson is coming to town tomorrow night for a fundraiser for Nancy and Jim Marcinkowski.

If you decide to donate to her, could you do it at my ActBlue page? http://www.actblue.com/page/skinnerforthe9th

Thanks for your consideration!
Sharon

8. It looks like it'll be just $20 but you're the first candidate
First, because I've known you forever and 2nd because her homepage had her posing with Joe Biden and I don't care what anyone has to say - I adore Joe Biden, but then again I'm from Delaware

9. Thanks!
It's not always what you know, but who you know.

When I mentioned Biden, I didn't even make the Delaware connection -- Duh!

4. McCaskill!
She and Talent(R) are neck and neck (each polling 47% -- dead even) but Talent has $5 million bucks more than Claire McCaskill does. That's my bet for the person who is most deserving. Here's some info:

5. Please consider PA-04 Jason Altmire
Two independent pollsters in the past 2 weeks have now confirmed what internal Altmire polls had been showing...Jason Altmire is within 4 (MOE for poll) of taking out Melissa Hart. There is a fair amount of postings re: the Altmire-Hart race in the PA forum so I won't duplicate it here...I believe you read/post in the PA forum.

This race has national attention, is on the DCCC red to blue list, and has money applied for advertising by the DCCC and the NRCC.

Let's make the "east" and "west" coasts of Pennsylvania blue!!!

14. Nevermind.
Just found out that this race will be getting some more money to remove Hart.

MoveOn.org is launching a sneak attack on the suddenly vulnerable Republican Rep. Melissa Hart (PA-04) with a $240,000 ad buy. :woohoo:

17. Now, see this is the kind of stuff I do want to support
I mean of Altmire was 20pts behind Hart, I would have disregarded it. However, I heard that not only is he closing in on Hart but the Post-Gazette endorsed him.

I'm waiting until the end of the day until I make my donations. I've already donated to a bunch of PA candidates but damn, it would be nice to do a +4 from PA (Lois Murphy, Joe Sestak, Chris Carney are all leading in their polls)

19. What's up with Patrick Murphy in PA-08?
I was hoping to pick up 5 House seats plus (p)ricky's Senate seat (and keeping Rendell, of course). Is PA-08 still possible?

20. That race confuses the bejesus out of me
I use to live in that district and it's leaning republican but PA-08 republicans tend to be on the moderate side of the party. For 10 years (while I lived there) our represenative was Jim Greenwood, who was the chair of the Pro-choice House Caucus and a major environmentalist. Part of PA-08 includes the New Hope region, which has a large GBLT population living in that area.

So why they are sticking with a neo-con like Fitzpatrick is beyond me but the district will still vote for Rendell and Casey

6. John Hall is in a tight race with six-term Republican incumbent . . .
Sue Kelly -- a BushCo toady who hasn't distinguished herself in any way during her 12 years in Congress . . . still, she has massive support from corporate PACs, while John is relying on individual donations and a massive volunteer effort . . .

John was a founder of the rock group Orleans {"Still The One," "Dance With Me") and is a committed environmentalist and a long-time opponent of nuclear power . . . he also opposes the Iraq "war" and supports universal healthcare . . . the race is tight, but we have a good chance of winning, particularly if he can get a few tv ads on the air in the next week . . .

you can learn more at these sites . . .

7. You didn't see my list of who I donated to already
John Hall was on it.

In the lounge, once in awhile, we'll do a bad Album Cover thread and John Hall's old band Orleans usually makes the list. I figured for the great laughs we had he deserved $20 and donated sometime mid last week

10. Charles Brown (CA-04) and/or Jay Fawcett (CO-05)
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 11:53 AM by DinahMoeHum
California's 4th Congressional District stretches from the eastern Sacramento region to Lake Tahoe on the south and runs up the Sierra Nevada range to the Oregon border.
Charles Brown's Repuke opponent, John Doolittle, is up to his eyeballs in 2 major scandals: the Abramoff/DeLay one and the Duke Cummingham one:
http://www.charliebrownforcongress.org/index.php

Jay Fawcett's CO-5 district included Colorado Springs, the US Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, AND the HQ of James Dobson's Focus on the Family. A victory here would really put a stake in the heart of RW-Bible thumpers:

Thanks for considering these 2 possibilities.

11. Dave Loebsack in Iowa-2
About to pull off a huge upset on the fake moderate Jim Leach. Leach is insidious because of his fake moderate stances that keep him in congress to do the Republican bidding.
Dave needs the money to finish it off. He's up by 2 in one poll down by 2 in another. HELP!

Not that I'm disregarding these other options, which I have contributed to in the past, but right now I need to help get democrats elected and my choice is to donate to the candidates
