Kerry has severe FOOT in MOUTH disease....
I agree with BossHog and others here ---- Kerry SCREWED up ---- yet again!!

All of the stations are now saying that his idiotic comments, and the last minute commercials that the GOP is cranking out as we speak that will USE THEM may just influence those who were teetering to our side.

Kerry will NEVER be the president, because he'll never make it out of the Democratic primary. We can't afford it.

He's not campaigning for himself and he's already creating fodder for swiftboating.

I'm sorry, but saying that he "left out two words" won't cut it.

Way to go Kerry.

57. I disagree - he got out a stunning indictment of the Bush Iraq policy
Iraq IS the number one issue - and Kerry was right on about the Bush errors here. Kerry may have mangled a joke by leaving out one 2 letter word - leaving the meaning ambigusous. But he HAS made it VERY clear what he meant. It is less easy to correct the mangled Bush war policy.

But his comment made him sound like an Elitist.

If DU'ers here think that this won't be used -- and used BIG in the waining days of the campaign, they are sorely wrong.

The media? The other day the media claimed NJ fired up the RW base! Webb gave the RW ammo!

This is a BS premise! This was a perfect opportunity to expose RW hysteria and smears, and Kerry did a brilliant job of bringing them out of the woodwork!

He also fired up the base! Will the media report that?

31. I happened to catch Kerry's rebut on Fox as I was switching channels
a few minutes ago, and found John Kerry to be very forceful and to really handle his "anger" against the GOP very well! Looks like he learned his lesson! :applaud:

The only thing I wished is that he would have used the words "Democrats" much more than "I" when he did his final rant! He is not the only one that has been swiftboated and he is not the only Democrat that supports our Troops or has been attacked as weak on defense....and to some extent, he would have done Democrats a larger service right before election 2006 if he would have used the "We/Democrats" when answering his last questions during the press conference even though I realize that he felt personally maligned.

Also, Kerry's response during that press conference was much more about all that he suffered during election 2004 than it was about what he said in California.

68. Interesting comment
I'm not sure if switching to "Democrats" would have been as effective. He has been continually defending other Democrats on this - as have others, notably Wes Clark.

Here, he was answering an attack on himself. I think this is actuallty HARDER for him - as it's easier to decry others being treated unfairly. Also, switching to Democrats may seem like he was trying tospread the blame by saying it was an attack against Democrats.

I just hope the strong criticism of Iraq is the stronger theme that comes out of this.

74. You may be right......
But since he was talking about GOP attacks in general, and the way they operate routinely....the "WE" would have served well in that very last question during the press conference.

If you have a chance, listen to Kerry's last reponse again, and let me know what you come up with....but what I said in my initial post is what I honestly thought as I was listening to Kerry's response. Understand that I'm not talking about saying "We/Democrats" throughout his rebut in that conference....but specifically on that last question and on his last answer in which he responded on how "he's" been fighting in the Senate, what "his" record is towards vets, etc.... I believe that it could have just as easily been said about all of the Democrats, in particular, right before a vote in where most Democrats are running, and would have been a great ad, a great opportunity sort of speak....as it might get a lot of airplay (I hope). It would have helped listeners realize that most Democrats are being attacked unfairly by this GOP attack machine when they actually support what's right for our troops, JMO.

Barring that, I think that John Kerry told the truth....and forcefully at that!

50. This post bothers me for two reasons.
One is that it is the same way people have gone after Dean for 3 years...taking every word he said and jumping all over it when he was actually speaking truth.

Another reason it bothers me is that Kerry is really speaking out which runs the risk of being attacked.

56. Ed Schultz just played the tape of Kerry saying McCain needed to apologize for Rummy, Bush not
sending in enough troops to do the job, and having no strategy to win.

It is great to see John Kerry taking it to the "media darling" John McCain. Ed also said that Kyra Phillips read John McCain's entire statement on the air. Time to give it to the biggest Bush enabler of them all, John McCain.

Way to go, John Kerry!

60. I think his explanation makes TONS of sense...
But when you mispeak a week before a critical election, that soundbite is going to be used OVER and OVER again to trash you.

How disgusting that John McCain, and even the DIRTBALL Denny Hastert are asking him to apologize?!!!?

He doesn't need to APOLOGIZE --- but since the screw up has been done, the media MUST play his response to what he meant to say!!

I just fear that they won't -- and that attack ads are being created RIGHT NOW.

I also think it's unfair for DU to jump on me "ASS-uming" that I don't like John Kerry. I was a moderator on his website during his campaign and worked hard for him.

But does he tend to stick his foot in his mouth? Unfortantely, he does.

53. IMO this brouhaha is being used to fuel the infamous
GOP fake outrage meant to dominate the news cycle and change the subject.

No worries. Tomorrow is another day.

64. Desperation! Andrea Mitchell said the "Republicans' weekend numbers looked really, really bad."
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 03:42 PM by flpoljunkie
She said this when speaking about the Republicans' heated reaction to John Kerry's comments yesterday.

79. I agree. They are grasping at straws.
And now Bush is going to ask for an apology from Kerry? BWWWWAAAHAHAHA! OK, then Kerry should ask for an apology for the 2,378 things Bush has said and done.

62. Kerry made a mistake, he's not perfect - there are plenty of Rebublicans
Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 03:41 PM by beaconess
who will jump all over him - why join in with them?

If this has a negative impact on the campaign, it will be because Dems turned and ran for the hills, pointing fingers at one another all the way, not because of what Kerry said or the Republican overreaction to it. This is a 15-minute story unless we let it get turned into a bigger deal than it is.

67. Because you don't fucking misspeak 7 days before election!!
You don't give the other side ammo. You just don't fucking do it. And anybody who calls me a "concern troll" can go fuck themselves. It was stupid stupid stupid, and the Kerry Club has decreed that anybody who says so must be a concern troll.

I supported Kerry to the hilt in '04. He broke my fucking heart by allowing himself to be swiftboated and FAILING TO STAND AND FIGHT after Ohio was stolen, and maybe others too. He's a LOSER who ought to just quietly keep his seat in the Senate and stop trying to "help" the Democrats. Has he raised money for Dems? Sure. AS WELL HE OUGHT TO BE DOING. What he ought NOT be doing is shooting off his mouth in the wrong place at the wrong time saying the wrong thing.

Jesus H.!!!!!!

80. People misspeak all the time (as opposed to being foul-mouthed to the
point of inarticulation) - it's not a big deal until people like you become hysterical.

There are scores of high-profile Democrats working their butts off to the point of exhaustion in the final days - someone is bound to make a mistake. Kerry's slip up is hardly worth all of this hand-wringing and moaning - he's not a major player in this campaign and nobody with any sense believes that Kerry was trying to insult the troops. The only way this will have legs is if we let it distract us, just as the Republicans want - which you seem determined to do.

The Republicans screamed foul in order to pull us off message and you took the bait.

I'm not going to.

Edited on Tue Oct-31-06 04:51 PM by SaveElmer
When the Webb book excerpts came out...

What happened...Webb went up in the polls...

It is not the original statement that matters, but how it is responded to...

Kerry's combative response is exactly what is required...other Democats need to back him up and hit the airwaves...

This could be an opportunity to refocus the election on Bush's handling of the war...

90. I agree.....
First of all, BUSH is the one who needs to apologize to the troops for not giving them the proper tools and equipment to fight this ill begotten war.

Kerry should tell THAT to the American people....toss all that stupid crap and all the lies and bs this admin has pulled off on the sheeples for all these years.

Then let the repukes whine and cry....the truth hurts and they hurt bad because they KNOW they are a bunch of total f*ups.

I say toss their sh*t in their face for all the lies and crap they have foisted on all of us for so long - will it hurt the election? I don't think so.

PLUS....where the hell ARE the recruiters going? Low income areas so they can meet their 'quotas' for the month.

Bush is a drunk. A doper. He was awol for his guard duty. He is a loser. Someone needs to stand up and tell everyone the stupid little emperor has no clothes (nor a mind either).

how many others not singing in the choir are going to do the same thing?

We live in a world of soundbites and nuggets of repeated information. Hopefully Kerry will be out all over repeating what you linked us to.

John Kerry or George W. Bush?

81. He Gave The Idiot An Issue... Whether Out Of Context Or Not... These
hooligans don't give a flying F--K about what the intent was.... they are going to jump on this like WHITE ON RICE!

I just HATE this crap all the time! We ALL know how the sheeple will follow, it WAS NOT a "finest" moment even though I truly don't think his intent was against the soldiers! Actually I KNOW it wasn't against the soldiers, but I'm afraid it will have the "talons" out again!

Worst of all, I sincerely Kerry just blew himself out of the water and I doubt there is much he can do about it! I believe him, but I'm sure all too many here are going to be totally pissed!

Just WAY too bad!

and Kerry handled it well. What happened to Kerry today, could of happened to any Democrat- keep that in mind. You don't know Kerry well if you think he would actually bash the troops.
I say, WAY TO GO KERRY, YOU HANDLED IT WELL TODAY!

88. Wisteria, NO ONE here said that Kerry bashed our troops..

There was a slip of the tongue; a gaffe; a verbal error, a botched joke ----- in short, he made a mistake in reading a joke.

Politicians who make these sort of gaffes, even as well all know were UNINTENTIONAL --- are going to be creamed by the other side.

But not one person here said that Senator Kerry bashed our troops!!

As the old saying goes, when your opposition is losing, sit down and shut up.

For him to make a joke using troops as a punch line is so fucking stupid it makes me want to scream, regardless of whether the target was intended to be Bush*
