Kelly O'Donnell, MSNBC Breaking: Bush is going to personally demand an apology from Kerry
They're riding this one for all it's worth. O'Donnell read from prepared remarks that Bush will deliver, saying Kerry's remarks are "shameful" and he owes the families of U.S. soldiers an apologies.

Tucker Carlson just called Kerry's remarks a "gift" to the GOP.

:grr:

20. CNN: "GOP, Kerry launch war of words over Iraq comment"
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/10/31/kerry.mccain/index.html

According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the senator took the stage to roaring applause before regaling the crowd with one-liners, Bush barbs and tales of surfing at nearby Mission Beach.

He then said: "You know, education -- if you make the most of it, you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well.

"If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

A Kerry aide told CNN that the prepared statement, which had been designed to criticize President Bush, "was mangled in delivery."

Something like "is this all the Republicans have in their bag of tricks?" or somesuch. Tweety is actually being the voice of reason, even as he's giving the imbecilic Tucker and a few others a platform.

if you don't study and learn then you will get "us stuck in Iraq."

That will make it perfectly clear that Bush is stupid and got "us stuck in Iraq."

25. Try this. It was from a speech he gave yesterday, and he
screwed up a joke about Il Dunce.

What Kerry was supposed to say (Taylor Marsh)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/taylor-marsh/kerrys-mangl...

Below is what Kerry actually meant to say, which I got straight from the Kerry team, which Kerry uses all the time.

"I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy?
You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq." - Senator John Kerry

And Kerry's comeback remarks were brilliant, brought the whole Iraqi war and this admin's culpability in it back into the headlines.

Yet another disastrous mis-step by the GOP. The LAST thing they should be doing right now is INVITING Kerry (and the Dems) to fire back at their incompetence in the conduct of this war, and their shameful treatment of the troops.

The "gift" is going to be under our tree, not theirs.

Kids continue to go to Iraq because George Bush doesn;t have a plan to bring them home.

And use the phrase "George Bush and his Republican Party" in every single sentence.

Second he is calling on bush and company to appologize for their LIES about Iraq, and what THEY HAVE DONE TO THE TROOPS

The frickn' media are trying to create a circus out of this, and a diversion from the real issues, but contrary to what they think, it will instead focus people on exactly what this administration has done TO the troops

CNN is going to be airing Bush's bashing of Kerry when he gets in front of the crowd in Georgia.

Also, John King said that Kerry is actually being asked by numerous high-ranking (he didn't say who) Democrats to stay off the campaign trail until the election is over. I kid you not.. ...King just said that Democrats were livid with Kerry.

I know he made a verbal error --- you know he made a verbal error -- but the GOP plans to jump on this soundbite and twist the hell out of it for the next 7 days straight.

Iraq is a disaster. Talk Senator Kerry. Talk about the child molesting Republican House Leadership. Talk about the deficit. Talk about why we are in Iraq. Talk about even the Iraqis wanting us out. Talk about who should apologize for crime after crime.

Because Republicans never pay for all the crimes they commit, yet soldiers get shipped home in boxes for mistakes in judgement and bad leadership.

If it's true that it's a joke that's he's made before, and if they can find video of him previously saying "you get us stuck in Iraq," that would be a huge help.

56. That is a mistake by Bush...
The media will then focus on Kerry and his response...

It will be a forceful denunciation of Bush and the war...and if Democrats follow up, it could boomerang on the Republicans, refocusing on the real issue of Bush's incompetence..

Also, it looks a little silly for the President of the U.S. to make a speech demanding an apology for a verbal gaffe...

Sorta pathetic!

57. Unfortunately, Tucker's right.
Yes, I know what Kerry meant, and I got it the first time I heard him say it. But you DON'T make stupid jokes that can be misconstrued and easily twisted by the GOP in the week before a critical election! And you DON'T respond with hostility the way he did. He's reacting to this problem the way Bush is handling Iraq--with stubbornness and temper, instead of diplomacy.

Kerry should have said that he apologized for not making it CLEARER that he was referring to Bu$hCo...but that he didn't apologize for making the attack on Bush and his failied policies.

As it is, now there's a huge sh*tstorm distracting from the issues (and it was Kerry who started it, let's face reality), and it's going to give us Dems a bad name.

Kerry needs to stay home, SHUT UP, and let Democrats with a command of the English language do the stumping. Kerry may have a better vocabulary than Bush, but he has no clue how to use it. And he sure has no clue how to make an effective joke.

I just hope to hell his stupid, bungled "joke" won't affect any political races on November 7th. If we've come this far, only to have his big mouth to ruin everything....
