Josh Marshall sums up this kerry flap brilliantly |
|
It's really a case study in the Republican outrage apparatus, one McCain's in on too now. What does President Bush have to apologize for? Let's see. Taking the country to war on the basis of what he knew were lies? Check. Distorting and lying about WMD intelligence to goad the country into war? Check. Having no plan for what to do in Iraq after Baghdad fell? Check. Lying about how badly things were going in Iraq because he coudln't face the truth and thus letting hundreds or thousands or American military personnel die? Check. Mmmm. Lying to the country about al Qaida being tied to Iraq, resulting in hundreds or thousands of American deaths? Check. Got any more?

3. In response for Bush's demand ... "Impeachment" |
|
As in:
"If I were President and had led our nation into this quagmire, the Republicans would be calling for my impeachment."
Now that's how to slapdown.
He needs to get the word into a comment somehow. It's the only way he can up the ante, and put them on the defensive.
Otherwise he just remains in their frame.

"If I were President and had led our nation into this quagmire, the Republicans would be calling for my impeachment, and they would be correct in doing so."
That would leave the repukes with NOWHERE to go! If they say no they wouldn't then they would be admitting that leading our nation into a quagmire was not an impeachable offense, and since they wouldn't want to do that they'd have to take the impeachment side.
EDIT: I also think he did quite fucking awesome, but this is a tuesday afternoon quarterback type of deal on my part
Smack the bastards again John!

6. Yes, better ... but would require an actual spine |
|
Your version actually calls for impeachment.
If that actually ever gets said by anyone other than Olbermann, the Dems among the DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy would all have to immediately change their shorts.
A bit too much to hope for -- any of them actually DOING something.
