Kerry: "I apologize to no one for my criticism of the president and his broken policy"
Kerry Reloads in Dogfight Over Snipe at Troops in Iraq

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,226490,00.html

WASHINGTON — Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry defiantly and in no uncertain terms declared Tuesday that he would "apologize to no one" for statements made a day earlier in which he told a gathering of California college students that if they don't do well in school, they will "get stuck in Iraq."

"I apologize to no one for my criticism of the president and his broken policy," Kerry told reporters in a press conference in Seattle. "My statement yesterday, and the White House knows this full-well, was a botched joke about the president and the president's people and not about the troops."

"Shame on them, shame on them," Kerry said of the Bush administration, which he charged is afraid to debate "real men."

6. BLATANTLY misleading headline
"Kerry Reloads in Dogfight Over Snipe at Troops in Iraq"

I know, I know, it's Fox so I shouldn't expect them to do anything other than embrace their role as Official Propaganda Arm of the Bush White House™, but still. That's not what he meant and they know it. Just feeding their sheep--I mean, "loyal fans."

even if it doesn't exist in the actual story.

13. Yep...that's why it didn't end up in MY headline...
...and I did skip much of Fox's "commentary" on Kerry as well.

As much as the GOP would like for this to be a "turning point," it...to borrow a down-home phrase from our fake Texas president...is a "dog that won;t hunt."

9. Kerry: "I apologize to no one" (Drudge)
It makes him seem so arrogant. I don't see how anything good will come out of this. Kerry should not have ad libbed the joke, and screwed up the intent. Now, he needs to go away. He should have said something in his news conference to the effect..."if anyone was offended by my words, I do apologize to them, but know that was not my intent". Too late for that now. This could stir up the right wing base. I don't like '08 presidential candidates trying to gain advantage at this important time prior to the '06 election.

14. I agree with you 100%...
He should have made a statement like you said and be done with it. At this point it seems that we are the only ones who can beat ourselves, and no matter Kerry's attempt at a joke, it doesn't help.

20. no person who would have considered
voting democratic is going to fall for this pile of shit spinjob. those who are wet over it are the rabid dogs like limburger, who were in the 37 % already. this stirs them up and gets them barking, true, but it won't change the numbers by even one vote.

do i wish it hadn't happened? sure. but i don't fear any real consequences.

12. I hope Kerry...
... sticks to his guns. His comment was off the cuff and imperfect. Like all people. If we are going to demonize everyone who is imperfect, we'll all be demons.

This is a chance for Kerry to be heard. His comments about not putting up with stuffed shirts are right on. He should leverage this whole think into making some uncompromising rhetoric heard.

21. Bush is a lowlife scumbag, attacking Kerry on a LIE!
When I heard about this, I....was....LIVID! I literally swore out loud in anger in my car. These attack-dog scum, this right-wing hit machine is the essence of evil, with no redeeming value, no purpose in life except to extend misery to the masses, while the few who are on the inside seize more power and wealth.

The Bush regime is nothing but a force to fail the masses, the country and the world; to gut this country's soul, for the sole purpose of concentrating greed.

Fuck them all!

23. Bush is clearly grasping at straws
it doesn't follow from the idea that if you don't suceed in school you are dumb and if you are dumb you get shipped to Iraq, that all troops in Iraq are dumb and failed out of school.

It is consistent to say some troops are smart but still joined the Army.

What kerry is saying that some people who don't work hard are left with little other choice than to join the Army.

But Desperate George will grasp at anything.

Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 09:56 PM by frogcycle
he was not even suggesting that "some dumb people" get shipped to iraq.

he was saying that our stupid, lazy, arrogant, mindless, shiftless son of a bitch of a president was so fucking arrogant and stupid that he started a war like it was a dart match in the frat house or something, and has sent thousands of volunteer military personnel in to fight that ill-advised war for him and his rich scum-sucking cronies, and he is so fucking dumb and stubborn that he ended up getting us stuck there. he was standing up for the troops, for cripes sakes.

ok, so he left out the word "us", and that made the statement ambiguous - but in no way would any sane person who knows Kerry and listened to the context have believed he actually MEANT interpretation (b) of the ambiguous statement. only our president and his henchmen would jump to that conclusion, in the process sending a hurtful message to the troops - that Kerry (and all democrats by association) think they are dumb fucks and suckers for being there. I rank that callousness in a similar (albeit far milder) category with the westboro baptist church hate mongers.
