Congresswoman Sanchez (D-CA) denied boarding under "no fly" list
The Department of Rovian Dirty Tricks...er... I mean "homeland security" is at it again...

The "Enemies List" and misusing gov't resources to retaliate against political enemies was among the impeachment charges against Nixon...today it's just BAU.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/10/31/congresswoman.nofly.ap/index.html

SANTA ANA, California (AP) -- A California congresswoman said she was briefly denied access to a United Airlines flight last week because her name appeared on a "no-fly list" set up after the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Rep. Loretta Sanchez, a Democrat who has been a critic of the no-fly list, said her staff booked her a one-way ticket from Boise, Idaho, to Cincinnati, Ohio, through Denver, Colorado. But they were prevented from printing her boarding pass online and at an airport kiosk.

Sanchez said she was instructed to check in with a United employee, who told her she was on the terrorist watch list. The employee asked her for identification, Sanchez said.

"I handed over my congressional ID and he started laughing and said, 'I'm going to need an ID that has your birthday on it,' " Sanchez said in a phone interview with The Associated Press.

The employee used Sanchez's birth date to determine she was not the same Loretta Sanchez on the list, and she was able to board her flight, she said.

Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Jennifer Peppin said that for security reasons she couldn't confirm that the name was on the list. But she said that name mix-ups do occur.

4. How is this a Rovian trick?
All it demonstrates is that the Bush Administration and it's little lap poodles in Congress don't know what the fuck they're doing with regards to "Homeland Security".

7. BECAUSE IT IS TOO COMMON A NAME!!!
It doesn't prove anything....

I do voter database work for the Democratic Party and I can tell you that there are lots of people with the same name.... the "no fly" list doesn't really work but it seems that only prominent Democrats and anti-war dissidents end up on the list and end up getting stopped by DHS.

With regards to Congresswoman Sanchez, there are just WAY too many Sanchez's in the phone book for this story to even pass the laugh test.

According to zabasearch.com:

There are 52 Loretta Sanchez listings just for California where she is a Congresswoman and too many to display for the country (>125)

CA:http://www.zabasearch.com/query1_zaba.php?sname=Loretta%20Sanchez&state=CA&ref=%24ref&se=%24se&doby=00&city=&name_style=1

USA:http://www.zabasearch.com/query1_zaba.php?sname=Loretta%20Sanchez&state=ALL&ref=%24ref&se=%24se&doby=00&city=CA&name_style=1

There are 5 listed in FL, 39 listed in TX, 49 listed in NM, 4 listed in AZ, 9 listed in NY, 1 listed in NJ, 21 listed in CO, 1 in HI

In short there are way too many to justify putting "Loretta Sanchez" into a "no fly" database... What "terrorist" was she supposed to be anyways? Are we just supposed to take Bush and the DHS at their word that it is legitimate to put anybody's name into a "no fly" database? There is ZERO oversight into this process and "no fly" has become the new Nixonian "enemies list"... Nixon used to have people audited by the IRS because in those days, they were the only gov't agency with computers big enough to know about every American and that also had tools at their disposal to make their lives miserable.

If you can't see the hand of Karl Rove in this story then you are blind my friend...

5. Democrats want the terrorists to win. Why let them on planes?
Why let them do anything?

Let's refer this matter to the unitary executive, shall we?

I bet she doesn't belong there either, and will have a much harder time boarding.
