Why Republican attacks on Kerry won't work!!! |
|
Two very simple reasons....
1. For an attack like this to work, the attacker has to be at least somewhat credible. George Bush is not. It is already assumed by a huge chunk of the electorate, that he is either lying or too stupid to understand the issue.
2. The charge they are making has to have at least a shred of truth. This does not. It is clear what Kerry was saying. The media will eventually focus on this and the story will fall apart.
There is an opportunity here though, because as usual it seems the Republicans are determined to overplay their hand. Instead of letting this story grow organically, they have turned it into a mon a mono fight between Kerry and Bush. This turns it into a political fight which people are just as likely to tune out, or given Bush's lack of credibility to side with the Democrats.
An aggressive response could focus the media back on Bush's Iraq failure, and secondarily on the Republican slime machine...make those the issues, both of which we have the advantage on!

But fortunately DU is not the center of Democratic response...Kos and the other blogs have more influence there, and the handwringing we see here is not apparent on those sites!

I really doubt that there is that high of a percentage of voters who even know that DU exists.

3. I know they would have been |
|
smarter to ignor the whole thing, the last thing that they need is for people to be talking about Iraq right before the election. They have been trying to change the subject and Kerry brought it right back front and center.

6. This Attack Will Only Work On Those Repug Voters That Want Any.... |
|
excuse at all to continue to justify voting Repug. Many Repugs I've talked to are embarrassed to vote for the Repugs again given all the things *Co f...ed up. This Kerry attack may be just the thing that some of these Repugs need in order to vote their party again. Some are looking for any excuse.

7. This is reminding of how Bush 1 was out of touch |

Righties attacking Kerry appear more like HW Bush at that checkout counter these days. Have they any idea where the average voter is at on Iraq?
Economicly voters are beginning to catch up as well. Things suck right now for working folks and the idiots on the right keep praising the economy. Couple that with Iraq, more comments like this along with the rights response is only going to propel the Democrats.
