DNC chief jumps into race
Early voting in Northbrook persuades party to wage battle for Kirk's seat

November 1, 2006
BY STEVE PATTERSON Staff Reporter
Democrat Dan Seals is finally getting the attention of the national Democrats in his drive to defeat Rep. Mark Kirk in a 10th District congressional race that is getting closer than expected.

The Democratic House political operation, after declining to initially spend any money on Seals in favor of better prospects, is paying for a series of direct-mail pieces in the closing week of the campaign after polls indicated Seals may be within striking distance of Kirk.

One small indication of interest in the Kirk-Seals contest: early voting in the village of Northbrook, which has the highest early turnout of any suburban municipality in Cook County, according to Cook County Clerk David Orr.

Seals will also benefit from a fund-raiser today headlined by Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and Sen. Dick Durbin.

1. He got some money from Rham, too.
I've been volunteering on the campain. It's very exciting. The race is close. But, Seals has the momentum and the grassroots volunteers.

3. Yeah, I attended the Piven fundraiser and we had a good talk. . .
. . .I would really like to volunteer for him but I'm tied up in another race on the state level.

2. My dad's active in the 10th Dems...he's optimistic.
I've met Dan Seals too -- he's a bit conservative for my tastes, but he fits the district well.

5. Calling all Dan Seals fans!!!
Please go vote for Dan Seals at John Kerry's website.
http://www.johnkerry.com/action/youdecide

Sen. Kerry is offering his fundraising apparatus to the three lucky winners of his “3 at the Buzzer -- Help Take Back Congress” challenge. Kerry has listed the top Netroots candidates in 3 senate and 12 congressional races on his short list. Dan Seals is on the list. The lucky three winners will be announced to Kerry’s 3 million strong e-mail community with a request to help out in the final days before the election. You can vote once for one senate and two congressional candidates. Please consider voting for Dan Seals as one of your congressional choices.

I've been volunteering for Dan's campaign since January & I know he's got what it takes to represent my district and our country in Congress. Any money he receives from now on will be used to buy more media ads so that he can get his message out to more people. We've got proof that when people hear his message, they like what they hear and commit to voting for him. Three weeks ago, before Dan started his TV ads, he was trailing the incumbent by 17 points in the polls. As a result of his ads and hard work from him & his supporters/volunteers, a recent poll shows that he is now ahead of the incumbent by 2 points.

Voting in today, Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006; it begins at 7 a.m. EDT and ends at 7 p.m EDT. You have only 12 hours to log in and vote.
Please help us put Dan over the top. Click on this link and vote, then forward the link to all your friends and family:
http://www.johnkerry.com/action/youdecide

(You will be asked for your name, email address, & zip code.)
Thank you for helping me and the many other volunteers in my district who have worked so hard for such a great candidate.
