The Kerry comment seems like it "has legs" |
|
the Repubs look like they are going to try to hold on to this as long as possible and the media is helping them do that. (So is Harold Ford). Dems need to calm down and IGNORE this desperate attempt for some last minute swift boating. Lets stop talking about it.

Kerry is spanking 'em pretty hard, determined to avoid "Son of Swift Boat."
Sentient people seeing the video footage can tell what the truth is, and the 'Lican distortion of what was clearly a slip of the tongue is just as likely to stoke the fires of anger and resentment in the Dem base as dragging more knuckle-draggers from their caves on Tuesday.
I wish Kerry had spoken the sentence more clearly, but now that it's out there, it's morphing into an opportunity to highlight 'Lican hypocrisy and fatuous politicization of everything.

5. All those legs lead to Iraq |
|
and massive republicans mismanagment.
Not to mention... it is painfully obvious to anyone that the republicans are distorting Kerry's words... and THAT will backfire bigtime.
The republicans are showing their dark side... now is the time to attack.... to beat them once and for all ....for good

the majority of people in this country only take what people say "on its face." They don't care for thoughtful explanations about what was really meant. Its wrong and sad but true.

15. don't 'misunderestimate' the people |
|
all the trends indicate they've had enough of republican bullshit... and this certainly is more republican bullshit. The republicans have only managed to underline it and put a dozen exclamation points behind it.
There is no benefit for the republicans in all this brouhaha. None.

7. "Johnny, get your head out of your ass. We have a problem here." |

OK, that was grandpa talking to me 50 odd years ago. It made an impact.
I've heard 4 different talk shows since yesterday, all Kerry, Kerry, Kerry. Each one has choked up veterans calling in. One local example: The retired military Democratic candidate for Congress is close to taking out the incumbent, but now has to respond to this matter.
There IS a problem....

10. They should answer and turn the situation against Bush. |
|
There is not point not acknowledging that Kerry botched his line, so they better do the better of this. Use it to attack Bush. What is worse "botching a line" or "botching a war".

I think you are mainly right. This is mainly the media and the Republicans. The media is really making too much of this. I doubt this would have an effect on the election if the media would not be making out like this was some grand mistake made by Kerry that could cost Democrats the election.
I think Kerry was extremely stupid to say what he said, but I think he was just stupid enough to say what many people in America think. I know America's military is made of many extremely intelligent individuals; however, I do also think many Americans believe the kids who choose to go the the military are not the brightest kids we have.
I disagree with you on the idea that we need to stop talking about this story. I contend the Democrats need to both defend Kerry, because of his military veteran status, and call out the likes of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ford, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and Hannity. Just about all of the latter did not join the military. In addition, Democrats need to talk about the Republican who have said the same thing or worse. I do believe that there was a Republican who said that Americans should not complain about soldiers who went to Iraq coming back homeless because they would have been homeless anyway. Democrats should point that out.
