Kerry "flap" = preview of media treatment of Dem 2008 candidate
Gore 2000, Dean 2004 primaries, Kerry 2004, now Kerry 2006. Why will it be any different in 2008?
Take ANY statement out of context...twist it into something the RW spin machine can crank out to its willing lackies...wall to wall coverage by cable news...then the networks...and finally the lie repeated incessantly becomes the new reality and part of popular culture. Too many to list to but Gore's "internet", Dean's "scream", and Kerry's "swift boat" are the headliners.

1. If it wasn't Kerry, then they would have picked up on something Dean or Pelosi said
n/t.

2. And before people start blaming the victim
Let's please note how many times Bush has said outrageous things.

Did the media go batshit crazy when Bush wanted gynecologists to practice thier love on women?

Hell No -- it just all slipped by.

But these wingnuts twist and quote out of context.

It would take the media 2 seconds to clear up this bullshit. Instead they serve it on a silver platter.

5. You mean like "we're winning in Iraq"?
Bush said that today. It's the last thing GOP candidates needed him to do. He's in "Trust me, I'm the President" mode, when his trust figures are really low. I know the media's trying to stick to this Kerry thing but, Bush just keeps making his own cause harder. ...So Kerry's not the only one.

of office that had nothing to do with a crime of office.

Yep - the golden-throated Clinton got IMPEACHED because of corpmedia MAKING IT HAPPEN.

This is just more of the same.

EXPOSE THE MEDIA.

4. "EXPOSE THE MEDIA."
How about divest and re-regulate the media. These corporations are a scourge on the country.

6. You have to expose them to DIVEST them - and I'm in that corner with you.
They are the frontline for the fascists.

and create new media.

While remembering what the corporate owners have done- and will do. These folks abused their power.

And like anyone who abuses power, I reckon that the day will come.

9. There are two standards here.
If you are a Republican you can say Osama Bin-Laden does not matter and is not a priority and it's treated as a charming little verbal gaffe.

Imagine if John Kerry said that?

Not to mention the 9-11 families and their dead. And the hundreds of thousands of Afghanis who were casualties of our bombings to "get" Bin Laden and Al Qaeda.

12. Bush is the beneficiary of low expectations.
Americans just take it on faith that he's not that bright. If he fails, it's a given. If he succeeds, it's a pleasant surprise. If he says something stupid, well... he's not that bright.

It never ceases to amaze me that a man who rose to the highest elected office in American politics can have such low expectations placed on him.

15. Yes, this is how they spun the debates from the coup of 2000
reversing them selves and their focus groups overnight as to the winner, basically Bush exceeded his piss poor expectations, so he had to have won, go figure. Then we got 9/11, Iraq and Katrina negligence in exchange.

You did a heckuva job mass corporate media!

11. What's really funny is that they're attacking Kerry for *their* interpretation
of his statement, which makes about as much sense as censoring Rorschach for drawing dirty pictures.

13. Absolutely...any candidate in 2008 will get the same treatment
The mainstream media really have proven themselves AGAIN that they:

1. Give Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and others in the administration a FREE FUCKING PASS!

2. Take Rove talking points directly and then repeat ad nauseum until the "damage is done".

3. Prove they are really owned by corporations that indeed love the Repug tax-free plan and endless wars

To run for president in the future, the candidate will have to whisper their comments and speeches into a group of lawyers in another room that will analyze the statement and then give the OK to have a professional spokesperson deliver the communcations. Oh, and NO RECORDING DEVICES are allowed within 10 miles of the venue.

18. I am not sure -- the core question is:
how much of what the republicans are doing thru the media requires them having the power of the white house platform. Does Rove move forward with the next player? Will Roger Ailes die of a heart attack? Will the editor of cnn.com be outed as Dan Bartlett? I dont think anyone really can know at this point.
