Moderators!!! URGENT
RETAKE CONTROL OF THE BOARD, PLEASE!

We have dozens of people starting new Kerry threads when really what they have to say is merely another comment. Not every comment has to be the starting point of yet another redundant discussion. If it's not a unique and independent idea or perspective that could have a thorough discussion in-and-of-itself, it should not be a thread. It should be a comment.

I understand DUers wanting to have every thought of theirs dissected by the entire DU community and have a discussion about their particular thought. But if we keep things organized a lot more, these thoughts can be kept as comments in truly topical threads. Everyone can go to one place to look for all the various unique perspectives on a particular issue. Everyone's comment will be thoughtfully considered by viewers.

Case in point: Kerry topics. Have you seen Letterman's skits on 'Bush Joke That Really Isn't A Jokes?' There are so many Kerry threads that are more like Thread That Really Isn't A Thread. I see the same thing happening with Olbermann's Special Comment already. This site is out of control.

I understand we're all passionate people, but if moderators assemble some level of organization on this site, DUers won't feel the need to create new topics for every idea just so their thoughts won't get lost in the shuffle.

Summary: Please start enforcing threads as being unique topics, not merely comments. The current chaos and obsession is bouncing legitimate and provocative topics to the back pages.

What a little teacher's pet you must be in real life.

Kerry threads.......KO threads....what next? I know, how about whiny mod wannabe threads. We all could use fewer of those.

I can't seem to get away from his person's posts complaining about everyone else's posts. They're everywhere.

'Tis annoying.

19. Because the topics are everywhere and annoying...
And I'm far from the first one to have complained. Not every comment needs its own thread for crying out loud.

22. Let me help you ...

From the actual DU rules:

"Forum Administration: Respect the moderators and administrators, and respect their decisions. You can help make their job easier by clicking the "Alert" link on any post that might need moderator attention. Please understand that moderating errors and inconsistencies are inevitable on a large website like this. If you have a question about DU policies, or if you have a concern about an action a moderator has taken, please contact an admin privately."

Now, if you don't like these threads, ignore them or avoid them. If you have something to say on some other topic, say it.

49. Cat herding is a piece of cake...IF you know what you're doing... ;-)
First you gotta realize it's not herding though...
you can't HERD cats. They get mad, they get distracted, and they go off all over the place, hence the saying.
BUT:
You can LEAD them!

The secret is to convince them that you are going somewhere that THEY want to go...
and you must have something that THEY want.

They're independent little critters, but they CAN be cooperative...if it's in their interest.

12. I'm not an authority on DU etiquette, but
it seems to me that your message would have best been relayed via private message to mods or admins rather than posted for all to read, especially since you're implying that a group of people who are volunteering their time to make this a better place aren't doing a good enough job to satisfy someone with a whopping 240 posts. The "URGENT" was a particularly masterful touch.

Nicely done.

32. I don't have a thousand posts, and common sense tells me
that you were out of line posting this publicly. I have no complaints about the place - at least none that a mod could fix (I hate copycat threads, but that's an admin decision) - but if I did, I'd let the admins know privately without making volunteers look like lazy and incompetent turds. Of course, that's only my idea of common sense.

15. I really don't think it is your place to "call out"the moderators.
in fact, i believe that it is against the rules. If you have a problem you should PM them directly. And I also say, let DU discuss whatever topic it wants. I would object to anyone determining what are legitimate and provocative topics. DUers will make that choice for themselves without being controlled.I suggest reading some other Board if you don't care for the current topics.

36. I understand it happens sometimes, but...
we shouldn't have to take a day or two off from the vast majority of valid threads simply because people are incapable of commenting instead of creating a new post. I've used other forums before. They're less cluttered because people comment where it makes sense to comment (common sense is a virtue) and moderators enforce it by locking redundant threads. However DU overall has much more valuable information. Moderators' purpose is to regulate. While they do a great job with everything else, they could lock redundant threads. In a matter of a day or two people will simply comment where it makes sense rather than starting a new thread for every thought that crosses their mind in a day.

47. You should start a thread about it.
Or just whine some more.

Listen, Skippy - Half the threads here don't offer a lot of information (I'm being generous, mind you). Instead of bitching about it to the overworked mods, maybe you could just hide the thread and look for one that has more details. The time that you've spent complaining could've been spent actually LOOKING for information. Instead, you've decided to bitch & moan about the lack of details. You wasted your time, and now I've wasted mine as well. I won't make that mistake again. Perhaps you shouldn't either.
