The Ohio Voter ID Law-- still a mess!!
An outcome to appeals was expected possibly as early as today-- but apparantly not?

As of today, Ohio voters still don't have the rules, with elections just a handful of days away. Unbelievable.

Ohio voter ID law back in court today
Wednesday, November 01, 2006

Columbus- Ohio's voter-identification law bounces back into a federal courtroom in Columbus today, setting the stage for appeals that could take several days to resolve.

U.S. District Judge Algenon Marbley will consider whether the new ID rules can be applied to absentee voters as well as to those who cast ballots at the polls on Nov. 7.

The rules and the lawsuit before Marbley - which contends the law is unconstitutionally vague and unevenly applied by Ohio's 88 county election boards - have confused both voters and election officials.

Download Today's Revised Order

The confusing back and forth continues in Ohio. On Sunday evening October 29, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit issued a stay of the last week's order blocking enforcement of Ohio's voter ID on absentee ballots. As a result, voter ID is once again required for absentee ballots in the state. It is not clear at this point what will happen to any absentee ballots that were mailed by voters without ID in reliance on the lower court's order.
