'November 7th is Not the End of Anything' ...by Dan DeWalt

After being relentlessly and consistently let down by the Democratic Party on issue after issue, year after year, and seeing that polls show many Democrats likely win without us, why should we bother to go out and vote for them next week?

Because, while spineless they certainly are, the Democrats haven’t entirely lost their sense of shame. They are poised to win this election only because of the corruption, hubris and rabid anti-American ideas (see: torture, habeas corpus, unitary executive, illegal war of aggression) of the Republican party. The Democrats are acutely aware that they have done more than their fair share of supporting many of these terrible policies. They know that without the disaster that is Bush’s war on Iraq, and his “war on terror”, they would be feeling almost as much heat as their Republican colleagues.

And if the American people join together and sweep these undeserving pols into the majority, there will be a brief period at the beginning of the next congressional session, before the corporate lobbyists have completely locked up the access, where the Democrats will be susceptible to demands from those who just held their noses and put them into office.

Nov 8 should mark the beginning of an American patriots’ grassroots blitz to demand that the newly elected Congress take immediate and serious steps to get our troops out of Iraq, and end the Bush administration’s power grab against the Constitution.

1. I've been saying that for a month now. Out of the frying pan...
Get OUR bastards into office, then kick 'em around.

We're the bosses, DU. Never forget it.

Personally, I'm looking forward to a FRIENDLY voice when I call my new Senator Pederson...

K&R.

2. A win (of either or both houses) on the 7th IS a mandate
and should be treated as such as much as Bush considered his ill-gotten, razor-thin victory in 2004 a mandate.

3. Good point. I live in AZ and our Senate and one of our House
races are both going to be razor thin, it appears. If our guys win, I'll proudly call that a mandate; this is a pretty red area for the most part.

Even if our guys LOSE, that ought to send a message to the Bushbots that they do have another constiuency and they better start paying attention to it.

As I say above, I'm hoping for a little more respect even if i'm still calling Vile Kyl's office.

4. I get the same response from Kyl's office.
..When I emailed him telling him my total dissatisfaction with this war.

Kyl's response?
"I do what I think is best and I support this war."
In essence I as a democrat in a red state have no voice. And writing Kyl or McCain's office is a total waste of my time!

5. S'funny, I've contacted Shadegg's office half a dozen times over the
last three years on different issues and have received the same form letter in response each time. Doesn't even have the guts to tell me to fuck-off.
