Gerry Spence: "Bloodthirsty Bitches and Pious Pimps of Power"
Gerry Spence has a new book out, published by St. Martin's Press.

Has anyone seen it? I'd like opinions, please.

Bloodthirsty Bitches and Pious Pimps of Power: The Rise and Risks of the New Conservative Hate Culture.

Here's a review:

Despite its inflammatory title, this book offers a thoughtful exploration of the vitriol of conservative commentators in the media and their effect on the broader society. Spence, an attorney who has represented Karen Silkwood and Randy Weaver of Ruby Ridge fame, lambastes Nancy Grace, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and other conservative commentators. While they attack liberals and others with whom they disagree, they don't dare attack their corporate sponsors, who commit all manner of misdeeds. Spence cites troubling parallels between the propaganda of Fascist Mussolini and Nazi Hitler and what he calls "corporacy," the growing corporate ownership and control of the media and American thought and discourse. Spence also attacks "thingism," the unbridled lust for products that enslaves Americans with debt, tying them to unfulfilling jobs, stoking constant fear and anger that are fed by the conservative commentators. Hate sells, Spence laments, in this stinging rebuke of the hypocrisy of commentators who cash in on the frustrations of average Americans without regard for the longer term consequences. Spence's passion should appeal to a broad range of readers concerned about the current political environment. Vanessa Bush

1. This is a guy who could probably get to all the Red Staters, too!

He's a real plain-talking, down-home, tell-it-like-it-is kind of guy. We need to get him out on a book tour ASAP! LOL!

3. I wonder why there wasn't a book tour!
Usually a tour coincides with the release of the book.

I have heard NOTHING about this book until I saw an ad in the latest NATION magazine.

Was he banned from MSM bookings? Or perhaps he isn't well enough to travel so much?

He's one of my heroes.

4. I just ordered his book from Amazon.
Price of $16.42, and free shipping if you spend $25. I hadn't heard of his new book before, but I always enjoyed listening to him when he was on a TV show.

6. I read his book about O.J. and the trial, and everything that went wrong.
He is very perceptive and astute when it comes to studying human nature, but he tends to pat himself on the back a wee bit too much.

The book was worth reading because it cut through all the BS that people were fed daily through their televisions and the radio and the rest of the media. I bet this book is worth reading, too. I'm sure he and the publisher tussled over the title, and I bet Spence won. :)

7. I'll have to look for this one at the library...
he wrote a book in the mid-late 90's titled "Give Me Liberty" that I was liked a lot. His folksy self-promotion has always been a bit off-putting to me, but I liked him better after reading it.

9. Kinda wondered what had happened to ol' Spence.
Haven't heard anything out of him in a while.
His autobiography was pretty good.
"The Making of a Country Lawyer"

I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief.

10. He's 77 years old
I spose that he's enjoying more leisure time than in the past. I do miss seeing him now and then on television.
