Did Maryland Democrats kill VVPB in the Legislature? |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 12:45 PM by Old and In the Way
Gov. Erlich(R) from Maryland just made that statement on Cafferty's CNN show. Is this true? If so, what didn't he tell us?

8. Yes, in the state senate |
|
The House of Delegates passed it, but State Sen. Mike Miller, the Senate leader, killed it. Both House and Senate are controlled by Democrats.
Linda Lamone, the state elections commissioner, is a Democrat and has been the main proponent of Diebold in Maryland. She has also helped promote Diebold to other state election commissioners.

11. The Legislature fought hard for |
|
paper verification, the Senate killed it. Ehrlich originally was very against having a paper trail and threaten to veto any bill that crossed his desk. The Senate was looking at a 20 million dollar and up bill from Diebold to add receipts and Diebold refused to even think about any reduction in price and a veto with not enough votes to over ride it. Linda Lamone(D) has been a strong backer of the machines. Ehrlich tried to fire Lamone and replace her with a hand picked Republican. (Google Ehrlich's practice of firing Dems and replacing them with Republicans everywhere he could.) Lamone went to court to get her job back since Ehrlich did not have the power to fire her the way he did. She won and kept her job. Ehrlich cried, whined and threw a petulant fit, like he does every time he doesn't get his way. The legislature tried to get a verified paper trail for a while longer and though it fell off the pages of the newspapers I know for a fact some have not given up yet. As for Ehrlich the 20 million dollars Diebold wanted was one of his reasons for threatening a veto and he didn't see the need to spend all that money. But eventually as Ehrlich found out HE wasn't going to have a faithful party member in charge of elections in MD he started pissing and whining that the vote could be stolen and we had no way of verifying it. Course he is in a race with a very popular Dem now for Gov. and he has decided to do the standard Republican thing and rewrite history to claim he was against not having paper verification from the beginning and wanted to fix it. Unfortunately it is working since the papers and news here didn't really cover it very much until this election. Both sides now have lawyers at the ready and we may not know who is Gov. until days before they are sworn in unless there is an overwhelming turnout at the polls.

I figured there was more to the story than what this guy was saying. Sounds like a desperate Republican who knows how to exploit an issue.
