1. Edit: Go Massa
Edited on Sat Nov-04-06 05:52 PM by OKNancy
I remember him vividly in the Clark 2004 campaign. He seems like such a great guy.
------------

Eric Massa is leading incumbent Rep. Randy Kuhl by a margin of 12 percentage points in a new poll conducted by the independent organization Majority Watch. The poll shows Massa ahead in the race with 52% of likely voters preferring him compared to only 40% selecting Kuhl.

Among voters in the northern half of the district, the Rochester suburbs and parts of Ontario County, Massa leads by 26%. In the traditionally Republican Southern Tier, Kuhl still maintains his advantage, but only by a single point. These findings show strong improvement for Massa who was in a statistical tie with Kuhl according to internal polling conducted in late September. In the intervening weeks, both candidates have dramatically increased their media presence on both radio and television and have participated in a series of five public debates.

"We knew from earlier polling that name recognition was our biggest challenge," said Massa's Campaign Manager, Mike Nolan. Previous data had indicated that voters familiar with both Massa and Kuhl preferred the challenger by a margin of 2 to 1. "The voters are tired of Randy Kuhl," continued Nolan. "Once they get a chance to hear from Eric Massa they overwhelmingly support him."

12. Massa is a really great guy!
He has worked his tail off, and knows the meaning of the word "serve." It is cool (not kuhl) that he and the General will be together on one of the final days of this campaign. When he called Wes to talk about this idea of running for the congress, Wes said that he suggested that Eric talk to Gert. A campaign isn't easy on the family. Eric's put it on the line.

Go Massa. The NY 29th won't get a chance to elect anyone better.

11. My mother has an email from the Maffei campaign that says
"General Wesley Clark to Lead Rally at Maffei HQ", so it looks like it's on. I wasn't able to get off of work for the Massa event, but should be able to make the Syracuse one.:bounce:

6. Great news
I'm so glad Wes is coming out for Kirsten. Weeney Sweeney has done nothing for the vets and she will make sure to vote for what they need and deserve.

8. These small to medium size events are crucial for our candidates
Clark knows there won't be huge crowds at a Hudson New York Diner on short notice, but he knows that if he shows up in a Congressional District then the local media will show up to cover HIM showing up. And that generates positive free local press for our Democrats.

When I went up to New Hampshire to see Clark, I saw him speak at a small restaurant one afternoon. I'll just say this. If anyone who hasn't seen Wes in person lives within a couple of hours of these events, I urge you to consider going. If you have a question for Clark there's a good chance you'll get the chance to ask him yourself directly, and he always gives a thorough answer.

16. NH & Carol Shea-Porter
Wes also left her with a radio spot that she's using in the district. Carol never had the big bucks so radio has played an important role in her campaign. NH likes its politics retail, and Wes likes NH politics.

BTW, although I'm sure it's been posted here, the polls show Carol within striking distance.

10. The three events I listed
are the only ones currently listed at Clark's web site, but I know that they are constantly juggling his schedule to fit things in and get him to where he can be most useful.

15. There are so many candidates who want Wes Clark to appear with them!
His schedule is often revised so that he can help as many as possible when he's in an area.

Bless him for trying to be everywhere!

19. mini report from Catskill...
From someone traveling with Wes...
General Clark Dazzles Catskill

Greene, County, New York -- With Kirsten Gillibrand at his side, still beaming from the release from the Albany Times Union ensorsement this morning, General Clark kept a standing room only crowd cheering through a 20 minutes talk. He is here to endorse Kirsten in her bid to unseat embattled incumbent John Sweeney. Latest public polls have her narrowing leading Sweeney, who is pinned under a cloud of ethical scandal this week. General Clark called for DefSec Rumsfeld to do more than "submit" his resignation to the President, but rather "to just resign". Kirsten and her husband John "have sacrficed alot to make this run" the General said, "and I am grateful because we need you serving in office.". Stonebridge alum, Allison Price was managing the media and indicated that the event "was big for us".

Our good friend, Gordon Suber was there too! He appeared pleased with both the turnout and the speeches, but I'll let him tell the story.

20. Eric really is an amzing guy
If anyone hasn't read this great profile of Eric in CNN Money, you really should go and read it now: http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/moneymag_archive/2006/11/01/8392432/index.htm?section=money_latest

It gives you an idea of just how much Eric and his family have sacrifced to make this run. He's a true public servant....and his family is wonderful too.

21. What an amazing story!
Thanks for contributing this. I knew about Massa's story as aide to Wes Clark, but this item about his sacrifice to be able to serve his country is inspirational, and reminds me of Clark himself. And he did it on his own, except for Wespac's fund-raising efforts. I attended a Wespac convention on D.C. last November. Massa was there, as was Rahm Emmanuel. At the time, Massa had not raised much money, his chances were regarded as nil, so Rahm made it a point to let people know that the only money coming from DCCC would be for Dems who had a good chance. Massa is an inspirational speaker and passionate advocate for good causes in the mold of Clark, and he now appears to have the edge in polls. He will be a welcome addition to Congress and a welcome addition to the list of Clark '08 supporters.
