PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: Today is First Lady Laura Bush's 60th birthday and tomorrow is the first couple's 29th wedding anniversary. President Bush spent part of today campaigning in Colorado before joining his wife, family and close friends at his Crawford, Texas, ranch.

Here's the AP story about Mrs. Bush's birthday celebration:

First lady celebrates 60th birthday

CRAWFORD, Texas - It's bling again for Laura Bush's birthday. For the second year in a row, President Bush gave his wife jewelry for her birthday. This year, it's a triple-strand necklace with amber-colored citrine, a November birthstone. The Bushes were celebrating Saturday night with four other couples over Mexican food at their Texas ranch. The president and first lady reunited after two days campaigning separately for candidates in the midterm election. Bush teased his wife during his rallies. "I'm not going to tell you her age," he said Friday in Iowa, "but we were both born in the same year, and I turned 60 this year." Mrs. Bush celebrated her 59th birthday last year in Argentina, where she and the president were attending a Summit of the Americas. To mark that occasion, she was given a coconut cake aboard Air Force One and the president gave her a green glass stone necklace and matching earrings. The Bushes have another reason to celebrate Sunday. It's their 29th wedding anniversary. "The president and first lady will be spending that together tomorrow morning," press secretary Tony Snow told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Texas. He wouldn't speculate on whether the president is obligated to get another gift. "I know how it works at my house, but I'm not sure," Snow said.

3. Yes, that's an excellent and most fitting birthday-slash-anniversary gift...
...I used to get mildly pissed off at the "pomp and circumstance" that Nancy Reagan insisted on during her stay at the White House, but Pickles leaves her in the dust.

I'm sure that if you asked them, totally off the record and with no accountability, George and Laura would admit to considering themselves "America's Royal Family." What's even more frightening is that the freepers lap this up like kittens purring over milk in a saucer.

:scared:

4. Hey, it's my birthday too...
Do i get a necklace?

Bush says: No necklace for you poor man.

Cheney chimes in: Go f*** yourself.

But all I wanted was a necklace and coconut cake. I didn't even ask about the 7 billion no-bid contract to Halliburton , which bought KBR .

Why all the hate? He's probably still pissed about that estate tax. What good is stealing all of that money if you can't keep it?

Perhaps your close personal friend Mr. Hannity will deliver it, if we can get it together quickly enough.

Good one, Nance!
