If elected, Jack Davis (vs Tom Reynolds) will not take a salary.. |
|
He has openly committed to accepting only $1.00 saying representing the people of this district(WNYS) is enough reimbursement. Got to get out the vote..not because of the statement but because it's time for Reynolds to go.

2. It's hard to get a guy elected when your foremost argument is |
|
that the other guy has to go.
Even if that is the best reason, to win elections you have to make an argument for why your candidate is better.
So, when your getting out the vote, make sure you give people a bunch of reasons why Davis is better and say that thes reason Reynolds has to go is because now WNYers have a much better choice.

Davis has run on the "jobs" format and that is the best possible for this district..His area particularly Buffalo, Niagara is a depressed area job wise and forgotten by Washington until a snowstorm when all of a sudden millions appeared for aid..Reynolds is smilingly representing the Washington Republican status quo and yes, he's gotta go..and that would be reason enough..However, Davis has the interest and enthusiasm that is lacking currently.

5. Wonderful! This is what they all should do! What a great example Davis |
|
is setting! If office holders can afford it--and many of them can--this is an excellent way to materially demonstrate that you represent and identify with ALL of your constituents and have the common good at heart. We not only have a society-destroying gap between rich and poor, we ALSO have financial/cultural class gap between our political respresenatives and all the rest of us. Immediately upon taking office--and, indeed, often long before--they are socially in the circles of the super-rich, seeking their donations, and surrounded with corporate lobbyists, seeking to buy them. Ordinary voters and citizens don't have the means to play these games. We are on the outs. And our interests are shoved aside. And on top of all that, the taxes on our meager wages are paying them big salaries and benefits that we will never see. No wonder we don't have universal health care! THEY don't have to worry about THEIR medical care. And they often live in great isolation--except at election time--from people who are suffering. The "star system," the corporate media and its values, the scads of money involved, the pampering and the perks, the power--and, lately, direct corporate control over election results, via the "trade secret" code in the electronic voting machines--have all added up a class of people--our supposed representatives--living in a completely different world than the rest of us. An action like this that breaks through that barrier is very welcome and very good for our democracy.

6. I actually have a bit of trouble with this. |
|
To begin making a precedent (and having someone doing this over years might create such a precedent) has a subtle implication that only someone who doesn't need to take a salary should be elected. It is a subtle message but it is none-the-less there. In fact, early in our history government positions paid no salaries and in fact the result was that only propertied and wealthy men ran and were elected to government. Paying a salary makes it such that people who are not wealthy can consider a career as an elected representative (I see this as being somewhat similar to public financing of campaigns in order to take out the advantage of hugely wealthy individuals of both parties and level the playing field to that of having the most capability and talent vs. the most money.

7. Tom Reynolds has made a huge object of Davis's wealth |
|
If only in response to that..it was a good move on Davis's part..Of course Tom R. is equally as wealthy no doubt..Anyhow the local Democrat and Chronicle endorsed Reynolds and it looks as the Good Ole Poops club is gaining and if you read between the lines..The senate???? still gotta get out the vote
