I've just returned from my town's caucus- We went with Dean |
|
It was down to only Dean and Kerry. None of the others were brought up except as possible running mates. Dean received our support but it was very close. All of course agreed to support whoever ultimately wins though. :-)

2. So you only have one delegate per precint? |
|
that would be very small scale politics to say the least.

just ludicrously expensive for the party to have run. I actually think it would be great if that is they way it worked for the most part.

It's very small. Larger towns will have more.

especially the part about all agreeing to support the winner. It is a theme that must be repeated by all, in order to prevail in Nov.

I don't know what kind of contacts you have around the state, but if you have good ones, it would be interesting to see other first hand reports and how they match up to the official results coming down from AP & CNN.

8. that is very interesting, given |
|
that you live in rural Maine, in an area that I'd guess is relatively conservative in terms of Democrats...
I'd be interested to hear what the discussions were like, in terms of pros and cons of each of the candidates.

Long time no see. :hi:
Dems are definately a minority in my area. However the few we do have run the gammit. The discussion (in favor of Dean) mostly centered on the fact that he's the only one who bravely came out against the war when it was most unpopular. The Dean supporters also pointed out that though he's lagging in the polls he has helped make all the other candidates face the war issue. There was much anger over how the media pulled him down. One person made the point that perhaps the conservative media conglomerates were more afraid of him, even going as far as to suggest that they (the media) intentially built him up in order to tear him down. Dean supporters also like the fact that he'd be unlikely to be attacked on the gun issue (which is very important to rural voters such as us)Dean supporters also worried about the possible Kerry Mass. Dem elitist perception.
The Kerry folks focused more on electability as well as his military background. They voiced 'lose cannon' concerns (about Dean)and made some very good points in that regard. They also thought he was a more intelligent, prolific speaker; relying more on facts then soundbits. But in the end Dean prevailed

My town is too small to have much clout. I intend to visit a couple other caucus' in my legislative district to see were they are leaning.

My hubby is at our local caucus today supporting Dean. (I already turned in my absentee caucus vote for Dean.)
I read that Bill Schneider referred to Maine as the "woodsy left." Made me smile -- I hope he's right. We're proud to be the hometown of Eli Pariser!

19. Dean: the right man for the job... |
|
Dean is the best of all the candidates, but unfortunitly..the insiders are out to stop him.
Congratulations on actually having your voices heard, here in Indiana we won't have any say until almost June, by which time we will only approave the remaining candidate. Most of America have no voice at all in who our candidate will be.
