Tony Snow: It's "absolutely crazy" to think Saddam verdict was tied to midterms
Before leaving his Texas ranch for campaign stops in Nebraska and Kansas, Bush planned to make a statement on Saddam's conviction. The former Iraqi leader was sentenced to hang for crimes against humanity in the 1982 killings of 148 people in a single Shiite town. The decision came two days before crucial congressional elections in the U.S.

White House press secretary Tony Snow, with the president in Texas, said the verdict is evidence
Iraq is creating an independent judiciary. He said it was "absolutely crazy" to think that the verdict was timed to coincide with the elections.

"I think American voters ought to be heartened by it," Snow said told the AP. "This is getting the Iraqis to stand up on their own. You can't have civil society without rule of law."

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the conviction was a "hopeful reminder to all Iraqis that the rule of law can triumph over the rule of fear and that the peaceful pursuit of justice is preferable to the pursuit of vengeance."

10. According to this article, Snowjob is lying:
Saddam verdict date 'rigged' for Bush

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/story.cfm?c_id=2&Obje...

Sunday November 5, 2006

Saddam Hussein's defence team has urged a delay of his possible death sentence and said the ousted Iraqi leader believed today's expected verdict was timed to boost President George Bush before US mid-term elections.

Saddam's lawyer Khalil al-Dulaimi repeated warnings that a death sentence against his client - which would come before Tuesday's US Congressional elections at a time when Bush faces mounting criticism over the Iraq war - would plunge the region into wider bloodshed.

"We have requested at least a two-month adjournment to allow us to complete our presentations in the case in which our defence rights have been violated and in which our clients have been denied full legal defence," he said. US officials deny that Washington has any say over the timing of the verdict or the court's decisions, saying the American role was limited to logistics and security.

"This court is a creature of the US military occupation, and the Iraqi court is just a tool and rubber stamp of the invaders," insisted Dulaimi.

12. I believe the intention of the verdict date was the same as the Nov 2004 OBL tape
Hopefully the next time Keith Olbermann does a montage of "Bush Administration Remarkable Coincidences," this will be among them.

13. I agree with Tony.
I don't think they actually wanted the verdict to come out now because now there's going to be even more violence in Iraq. It will only emphasize why no one should vote for the rethugs. This is bad news for the administration.
