Pelosi ; Statement on Saddam Hussein Verdict
The Iraq people are to be commended for bring Saddam to justice in an Iraqi court. I commend our brave American Troops on Iraq as well, for the trial could not have taken place without the security and logistical support they provided.

Unfortunately, the verdict is a solitary incident in a country wracked by sectarian violence and instability. Saddam's conviction and sentencing for the crimes he committed against his own people in the 1980's were expected. It remains to be seen whether the results of the trail will have any effect in ending the civil war that now engulfs Iraq.

Nearly three years after Saddam's capture, the US Central Command said Iraq is near chaos. That is clear evidence of the lack of progress in bring security to Iraq and bringing American troops home,

The failure of President Bush and his Administration to have a plan in place before the war started to complete the mission successfully was a disservice to our troops, and has come at a huge cost in casualties suffered, the degradation of our military readiness and in hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars. The scope of that failure is not lessened by the results of Saddam's trail.

God forbid you mention the ILLEGAL INVASION BY AMERICA of a nation that had not been doing one damn thing to anyone.

God forbid you mention the MISSION IS OIL, admitted to by bush himself.

God forbid Democrats actually speak out the fucking TRUTH and let the chips & ignorant rightwingnuts fall where they may.

5. Nice bullshit statement, Nancy. You are now ready to be Speaker!
Let's cut to the chase, shall we? The so-called trial was a sham, a fraud, and no more valid than the show trials Stalin used to stage during the purges.

Saddam should have been tried by the International Crimes Court at The Hague, just as Bush and his criminal regime should be tried when it comes time for them to be held accountable.

Saddam will take to the grave all of his knowledge about Rumsfeld's trip to Baghdad and the WMD technology that he was given by the Reagan Administration. Perhaps that is one of the reasons Saddam was tried by such a sham of a court, the verdict a foregone conclusion.

The one good thing about this is that once you kill Saddam, you can't kill him again. His death will not bring victory to our troops, nor peace to Iraq. We are stuck in Iraq because our political institutions have failed to stop the war and, once it began, failed to get us out of the quagmire.

The supreme irony about Saddam's trial is that the US has killed more Iraqis in nearly four years of war than Saddam did in twenty five years of his rule.

9. well, that was sure political
she could have pointed out the part about the trial being a travishamockery of 'justice', that it wasn't the iraqis that ran the show in the least and the hilarious timing of the 'verdict' but she knew any such commentary would have been immediately pounced on by the usual suspects and twisted into a 'support of terror!'
