the new york times has stated that "ted haggard" has admitted he's lied and deceived his whole adult life.
What the game plan should be now is to see who helped him into his office of president of the church.
A good reporter ought to be able to do this in less than a week!
I'll bet some familiar names will come up.

In his eyes, all of his repressed gay urges were/are just the Devil trying to tempt him into sin. He's not gay, since gays are willfully living in sin; he's a perfectly normal heterosexual male who was unable to overcome satanic temptation.

SOme closet case assholes like this take it upon themselves to make money off of creating hysteria about gays when they themselves are gay. Not only has he fought to deny me equal treatment under the law but he has ruined the life of his wife and children and put his wife in a very dangerous situation. My partner and I always have to worry about who we can tell that we are gay, what we should say at work, buying a new home was a nightmare ect. all because of assholes like this. Think of all the gay children of his church members who went into depression or killed themselves because of what this asshole filled their parents heads with. I hope he contracted a deadly STD that puts him through a lot of pain.

I have a bunch of siblings, too.

My father came out and moved in with his partner in the 80's, but lots of gay men and lesbians got married to straight people decades ago and haven't managed to come out yet.

Or they came out when their kids were in their teens or twenties, even older. It's not an easy thing for the kids to deal with, because they were usually raised to believe that homosexuality was wrong -- and all of a sudden one of their parents comes out and says "here I am -- the real me!" (And "p.s., forget everything I taught you.")

Don't jump to the conclusion that Haggard "is gay."

Look at it this way: just because we know that Haggard has a taste for meth, do we assume that he never enjoyed getting drunk?

He could be gay. I think it is probably even more likely that he just swings both ways. We've all heard that sexuality is a spectrum, and it's actually true. And if you look at the history of sexuality across various times, cultures and places, what you find is that male bisexuality is pretty common. This modern day "straight"/"gay" dichotomy is pretty unusual.

For various reasons, however, in today's pretty liberated sexual atmosphere in the USA, there remains one major taboo for men - sexualitiy with other men. So basically every "straight" guy has to pretend that he has never had any homosexual urges or thoughts, and that anyone who does is 100% playing-for-the-other-team, off-the-reservation GAY.

There is a massive swath of repressed male bisexuality just under the surface. Explain "wrestling" on TV for one thing. I'll tell you this: in my opinion, all the supposed hot-girl "bisexuality" out there (meaning young women getting drunk and making out with each other to get the attention of guys who have been trained to cheer that on by contemporary pornography) is pretty fake. Men are horny however, and some men (like Haggard) get it, it seems, however and wherever they can. I figure once they come up with a vaccine for HIV, everything will come out in the wash and everyone will stop pretending.

Am I totally off here?
