The Corker campaign ad against Ford reminded me of a line from the old Blazing Saddles movie, where Cleavon Little got the KKK to chase him by saying "where's the white women!" In my native "rural-South," there was this ongoing, ridiculous stereotype that the white women (property of the white men, of course) always had to be protected from the black men who were "out to rape them"...hence, the shock-value of the Republican commercial. (By the way, I vaguely recall that the Tulsa Race Riots, where dozens of blacks were killed, was started by a charge--possibly baseless, I can't remember now--of a white women being sexually attacked by a black man in an elevator.) Leave it to the Republicans to dig up the rotting corpses of past stereotypes for political gain.

And don't forget what Lee Atwater, the founding father of modern republican politics, said while working for the Reagan administration:
