Will the "October Surprise" Come on November 7th?
The full title of the article is "Towards a Police State in America: Will the "October Surprise" Come on November 7th?"

Maybe I need to go through to the kitchen for some tinfoil, but, I have a bad feeling about this people. Something is nagging me about all the intimidation, the voting problems and the distinct possibility of a pissed off population if they think the Repugs have stolen the election.

1. Stay calm, be patient..............
Let's see what happens FIRST; the neocons will NOT steal the elections for the third time.

4. Would the military go along
with a Bush declaration of martial law? We're straying into dark waters here, folks. If these fears do materialize we would not be looking at a massive roundup of "dissidents" but the potential for a full scale military coup. Soldiers, and their officers, are sworn to protect this nation first, even before obeying the Chimp in Chief. Get enough of them angry enough and the troops may well march, but march ON the White House, not FOR the WHite House.

And that will be that. Adios USA, welcome banana republic.

Damn, I miss RMN.

5. We have no one to blame
but our own Democratic leadership.

I have read the Rolling Stone article. I have seen "Hacking Democracy" and countless other web sites and articles. I have written my Secretary of State, my Congressman, my Senators.

All I get are patronizing little pats on the "don't you worry your pretty little head. We have everything under control."

Except for an eleventh hour bill in the final weeks of October (requiring a paper ballot for anyone who requests one). I haven't seen a single Democratic Senator, Representative, or senior party official speak publicly about the need for verifiable voting at all.

Not Al Gore -- Who should be the poster child.

Not John Kerry -- Ditto.

Not Howard Dean ... No one.

The comment I hear most often is the smarmy "We'll just have to win by such a huge margin that they can't cheat."

They've already proven in Ohio that they aren't above swapping a 40-60 margin (pre-election poll) to a 60-40 vote count on a ballot issue favored by the governor. We're not going to get a margin bigger than that.

Not one complaint from a single Democrat of any stature. Not one serious proposal for verifiable voting in six years.

If Republicans hack this election, it's because our Democratic leaders are stupid.
