I voted, but may have cops come after me....
As we went to vote, right at the driveway to turn into our polling place (a church) there were 3 campaign signs: for Mark Green (R) for governor; Senselessbrenner (big R) for Congress and to vote YES for the marriage ammendment!

On the way out, I got out of car, took them and laid them flat on the ground. Of course, some guy had to stop turning into the voting place and ask what I was doing. I told him that campaign signs were illegal at voting places. I am sure he took our license plate number down - but what the hell!

9. I wanted to stay across the street and keep taking them down
if somebody put them back up.

My hubby asked about them inside and they said it was OK because the door to the polling place was 100 ft away (they measured?? - yeah right). But I contend if it is right at the driveway to turn into the place, it is trying to influence voters.

21. Actually, they DO measure.
In CT, it's 75 feet from the door, and they literally measure it out and place a sign at the boundary.

22. You're probably right - they probably did measure
but SCREW them!

I have to run an errand later and will drive by - I laid them down and I am sure they are back up again.

Wish I had some DEM signs to put up in front of theirs, but...

5. You may have been wrong.
They're allowed to put them up a certain number of feet from the polling place.

17. Must be that in Delaware too. We always have TONS
of signs at the edge of each polling station, PLUS candidates shaking hands and handing literature out in the driveways.

13. You did the right thing,
you didn't destroy or remove the signs you simply put them on the ground. Sounds like the correct thing to do to me, thanks from one citizen to another.

25. Wrong.
In Florida where I held signs the law states 100 feet and the boundary is measured off and clearly marked. I held up democratic signs all morning and I pounded my signs into the ground when I left. I would not be happy if someone pulled them out and layed them flat. If you want to do the correct thing, go get some democratic signs and put them up right next to the republican signs. This is legal.

18. It is suppose to be 100 ft away, but
right at driveway still influences people

I would have loved to put up some DEM sigsn, but they are a rarity around here. Had in our yard - stolen (like 2 years ago too!).

And you can tell the area I live in - Senselessbrenner, so not many DEM signs to borrow even!

19. well, sure they can influence people
that's why they're there!

(The question is whether or not they are legal. Based on what I know from my own state, I suspect they are)

But, it isn't like republicans never took down any signs!

Happy election day! :hi:

27. I believe so.
I had a professor today explain how when he and his family went to vote today, a man wearing a "Devos for Governor" sweater was kicked out because of the law and wasn't allowed back until he took it off. Fortunately he had a tee underneath.

23. I saw someone laying signs down today that
were in front of a polling place down the street from me.
Now I know what she was doing, and they were all RePuke signs!

Good for her, and good for you!:)

26. Again, no.
All the signs at my precint were dem signs and I put them there, ten feet away from the 100 foot legal boundary. If I saw someone pulling them out, I'd be pissed. The best thing to do is to get your own signs and put them next to the republican signs. And if you go last, you can strategically block their signs. ;-)

28. There were about 10 campaign signs at our polling place
It was a mixture of both Dems, and Reps, but the first one in line was Claire McCaskell, so, it
really didn't bother me too much. They were almost on the Highway, so, they were probably legal.
There was a heavy turnout at our small precinct this morning.

Sure will be glad when this is over and done.. :dem:

29. New question now.... drove by and they were back up
but about 100 ft away from driveway now, which is better BUT

while running errands, I went out of my way by just a couple of blocks and went past 3 other polling places. NONE had signs up on or nearby - why, because those polling places were public - a fire station, the municipal building and a public school.

So why then should I be subjected to seeing campaign signs when my polling place is a church and other people see nothing when their polling place is a municipal/public building? This is not a DEM or repuke thing -IMHO it's just something that on election day should apply to all places or none
