He ruins the patter, if it weren't for him, I could say "There are no 'journalists' with integrity!", but no, there's Keith Olbermann... Unlike nearly all other journalists, not only does he have solid personal and professional integrity, he's also smart--incredibly intelligent--while also being eloquent, perceptive and well informed. Damn it, those other journalists don't deserve to be called journalists and I could easily condemn the whole profession--but for Olbermann.
So there he is, the exception to the rule, making it impossible for me to make blanket statements like "All journalists suck!". So I have to qualify my statement and say "Almost all journalists suck!"--which sounds alot less profound than it really ought.
Still, thank whatever Gods that he exists! I remember back after the 2004 election how Olbermann was practically the only journalist who was taking the accounts of electoral fraud serious and providing media coverage of the many obvious instances of blatant fraud or astonishing events that could only be explained if there was some sort of nefarious electoral activity going on behind the scenes. He caught hell for it and was ridiculed by many. It's a real shame, especially in America, that merely reporting the facts has become an activity that draws such abuse. Truly amazing that just doing your job with honesty and integrity, particularly in the field of News/Journalism, has become such a cause for celebration, but it has; even so, there are yet so few examples there is little cause for such celebrations.
Fortunately, things are getting better. Too little and late, but hopefully not too late. What will happen and what part of what happened will get coverage from today's elections, I don't know... but I do know that if there's anything fit to report, at least we can count on Keith Olbermann to report it!
