CNN TELLS YOU TUBE TO PULL DOWN VIDEO OUTING GOP PARTY HEAD KEN MEHLMAN
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 08:40 PM by powergirl
Why is CNN so cowed over on this one? Instead of letting people discuss or disprove these accusations, they just manipulate the story. What is this, freakin' PRAVDA???

by John in DC - 11/09/2006 02:24:00 PM

I just got a cease-and-desist letter from YouTube, see below, regarding my CNN footage I posted. The footage, you'll recall, was from Larry King Live last night in which Bill Maher outed Republican Party chair Ken Mehlman as gay. It seems that CNN has suddenly decided that it no longer wants bloggers, or YouTube, posting any of its video, which is kind of surprising since I always thought we were doing a CNN a favor by constantly touting their network. Apparently I was wrong.

NOTE: You can still see the entire video on Huff Post. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/11/08/censored-by-cnn-bill-mah_n_33701.html

CNN has also now edited the official transcript of Larry King Live, so that no one will ever know what really happened. Here is CNN's transcript:
MAHER: A lot of the chiefs of staff, the people who really run the underpinnings of the Republican Party are gay. I don't want to mention names, but I will on Friday night.

KING: You will Friday night?

MAHER: Well, there's a couple of big people who I think everyone in Washington knows who run the Republican...

KING: You will name them?

MAHER: Well, I wouldn't be the first. I'd get sued if I was the first. (A PORTION OF THIS TRANSCRIPT HAS BEEN REMOVED)

KING: Great way to close out this segment. It's poignant.
CNN didn't just edit out the naming of Mehlman as gay, they even edited out Larry's question, and Maher's answer, about why gay people sometimes work against their own people. Now why is that question being censored by CNN?

I plan to cut the video back to ten seconds, the crucial part where Bill Maher outs Mehlman, then put it back up (I also still have the 3 meg file, 1 minute 20 seconds long - as do lots of other people, including the Huff Post). I have a law degree from Georgetown and I know intellectual property law as it concerns journalism. You can post an 8 to 10 second video clip as fair use for news purposes, and that is what I plan to do. And if CNN and Google try to close down my YouTube account for using an 8-10 second snippet for news purposes, they're going to have serious problems.

10. Remember when CNN scrubbed the script btw Novak and Larry Flynt?
It isn't the first time that CNN has censored something that favors the GOP.

Larry Flynt Drops Bombshell on Dubya
In case you missed it, here's the transcript from CNN's Crossfire
by Dave "Doctor" Gonzo

Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 -- NEW YORK (AmpolNS) -- Thank goodness for Larry Flynt.

For over a year, Bush's political opponents have been gathering information on his less-than sterling past. And a few facts have slipped out -- but only turned up as tiny blips on the media radar.

First, Martin Heldt, using the Freedom of Information Act, uncovered documentary evidence that George W. Bush deserted the National Guard. When an article attempting to refute Heldt's finding appeared on the perfectly awful George magazine's web site, in what looked like an attempt to discredit Heldt's research, we laughed out loud -- because the hapless authors at George look to have received doctored documents or doctored them themselves and, worse yet, based their conclusion on what can only politely be called "fuzzy math."

***

Let's get to the second point. Last night, Larry Flynt appeared on Crossfire. For those of you who missed it, here is the exchange Flynt and Bob "Novakula" Novak, vampire conservative pundit:

Mr. Novak: Mr. Flynt, never let it be said that we censor any of our guests here on CROSSFIRE -- and you said you wanted to talk about the election. Tell me what you wanted to say.

Mr. Flynt: Well, during the impeachment debacle, we did an investigation which resulted in the resignation of Bob Livingston and others, and we have continued this investigation -- and for eight months we've been looking into George W. Bush's background.

And we've found out in the early 1970s, he was involved in an abortion in Texas -- and I just think that it's sad that the mainstream media, who's aware of this story, won't ask him that question, when they were able to ask him the drug question without any proof at all -- and we've got all kinds of proof on this issue.

Mr. Novak: Well, you're...

Mr. Flynt: You know, the guy ADMITTED he was a drunk for twenty years, and if the abortion issue is true, then that puts him lower on the morality scale than Bill Clinton!

Mr. Novak: Mr. Flynt, you said IF it's true and you have no proof of that. I gather you are a very strong...

Mr. Flynt : THE HELL WE DON'T HAVE PROOF!

Mr. Novak: Sir, I gather you're a very strong Gore supporter. Is that correct?

Mr. Flynt: I'll vote for the lesser of the two evils -- I don't like either one of them!

Mr. Press: All right! Larry Flynt -- a man who speaks his word. But we remind you, they are Larry Flynt's words and not ours. Larry Flynt, thank you very, very much for joining us.

Minutes later, Flynt was in the CNN chat room:

CNN - Mr. Flynt, I would like to know how you plan to protect yourself from a law suit by claiming to have the goods on GWBush.

Flynt: Because we have them and the truth is an absolute defense.

CNN; When and where are you going to publish information about George W. Bush?

Flynt: When I said that we had the proof, I am referring to knowing who the girl was, knowing who the doctor was that pereformed the abortion, evidence from girlfriends of hers at the time, who knew about the romance and the subsequent abortion. The young lady does not want to go public, and without her willingness, we don't feel that we're on solid enough legal ground to go with the story, because should she say it never happened, then we've got a potential libel suit. But we know we have enough evidence that we believe completely. One of the things that interested us was that this abortion took place before Roe Vs. Wade in 1970, which made it a crime at the time. I'd just like the national media to ask him if abortion is okay for him and his family, but not for the rest of America. We're not looking at it as a big issue, we're looking at it as a situation of people not being told the truth. I think the American people have a right to know everything there is to know about someone running for President.

But it's too late as far as the actual story goes.

You know Maher's going to repeat it tomorrow.

And please, for the 119th time, don't use the word "accusation." Thanks.

12. Why DO they work against their own people.
I saw the clip, but it didn't have that discussion about "why". It amazes that homosexuals can feel comfortable in a party that demonizes homosexuality. I'd like to know whay they think it happens.

13. Anderson Cooper covered for Mehlman BIG TIME last night
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 07:55 AM by Jacobin
He was reporting on Mehlman's resignation and after being asked why he resigned, that it was because of the election results and 'he had been thinking about it for some time'.....He went on and on about these reasons in a way that looked a bit too much like 'thou dost protesteth too much'.

Beltway insiders covering for one another, I suppose.

Its an open secret now.

15. Put half the blame on GooTube
It's as clear-cut a case of fair use as you'll ever see - short clip, newsworthy, and you can't tell the story without it. Any competent attorney would have just laughed and told CNN to take a flying leap.
