Going into Red State conservative bastions required enlisting Democratic candidates that are not exactly liberal. We are a much more ideologically diverse and centrist party now.
To win in all 50 states you need to select candidates that reflect the politics of those who live in all 50 states. And as we know some of the more heartland and southern areas are unabashedly conservative.
That was part of the 50 State Strategy as well.
I hope people here can deal with that.
That said, yeah. We kicked Bushie ass, and there is nothing better (or more important) than that.

5. Dean is the best. I remember vividly going to house parties |
|
and listening to Dean via the phone. He talked about the 50-state strategy even then.
I was so distraught that the "DNC" wanted Kerry. Dean could have won!
I LOVE Howard Dean!
Still got his t-shirt and still wear it.

Which is why I am baffled to learn today that James Carville wants to dump Dean and replace with with anti-LGBT Harold Ford.

8. The next Presidential cycle will be pivotal. |

If we win, the new President becomes head of the party. If we lose, the Dean insurgency will be defeated too. Mr. Carville is anxious that either the new President be from his faction of the party or that we should lose so that his faction may re-assume control of the party. Either will do from his point of view. In some ways losing is better, since it will kick the Dean insurgency in the nuts, and promote a return to the top-down party that Carville prefers. If Dean remains in control, and wins the Presidency, Mr. Carville's faction will be toast, and himself washed up.
