About this impeachment hysteria. . .
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 01:06 PM by wndycty
. . .I keep hearing outrage over many Democrat saying impeachment is off the table. Folks get a grip. It would be political suicide saying they are going to impeach Bush, as a matter of fact many of us on the far left have unfortunately put the Democratic leadership on the spot.

Let the Dems take over and LET THERE BE HEARINGS AND INVESTIGATIONS. The facts and findings will dictate the course. If the facts and findings lay the ground work for impeachment I'm sure it will come. Don't forget that Clinton was impeached over a blow job. Calm down, impeachment is off the table. . .FOR NOW! I'm sure if cirumstances warrant impeachment will be back on the table. Also the heat of the investigations already has many on the right shitting bricks and this will be interesting to watch.

Let's remember WE have a much bigger agenda than just impeachment. We have healthcare, repealing the tax cuts, cutting the deficit, minimum wage and so many more issues that impact YOU and I more than impeaching Bush. If it happens, great!

2. The reactionary bunch have been very vocal since Tuesday.
Heaven help us if we would happen to try to straighten out a few messes and take care of some critical situations (like Iraq) before getting down to impeachment, which won't happen anyway. Even if they could get an indictment (impeach blivet) they can't get the 2/3s necessary to convict.

How many people here have make so many remarks about what a waste of assets and time it was to go after Clinton when they couldn't convict him???? I mean, we should never have gone and stuck our national nose in that mess in the first place, but really, to hold those hearings, tie up the government, cause all that hysteria, spend all that money. For what? Not a damn thing folks.

Trying to impeach Chimpy would come to the same thing. We can use his to good purpose. Point out for the next two years that every mess we have to clean up now belongs to him. Him and his good buddy, and probably boss, Dick Cheney.

On to fixing Medicare/Medicaid, NCLB, the national debt, Iraq, the environment, national healthcare, the energy crisis, etc. Work for something constructive.

3. I think the problem here is that people can say anything on the Internet...
...without much consequence (in terms of credibility) or accountability, so it's just too easy to demand things like impeachment over and over again.

It also seems to be degenerating into a culture of wallowing and pretending and not doing. Actually doing politics requires people to think more realistically or else they waste real effort and lose real credibility; this thing people are engaged in here is more like fantasy football, but with politics.

5. Paisan!
I disagree with your opinion that impeachment, or the ardent arguing for it, constitute unrealistic wallowing. What is unrealistic is allowing criminals like these to get away with crimes against humanity and the Constitution and maintain a straight face about America being a "nation of laws," lording it over the ungodly masses everywhere else in the world. Until politicians like these are held accountable, we have no credibility in any international form, nor do we maintain any moral high ground. Had Nixon not been pardoned, allowed to pontificate from the sidelines, and enjoyed something of a rehabilitation in his dotage, we probably wouldn't have wound up with Cheney/Rummy/Bush. They wouldn't have dared had they known they risked rotting in prison for the remainder of their lives or being rendered to the Hague for war crimes prosecution. They have committed treason and should not escape justice.

4. Thank heavens...
I couldn't agree more. There is so much more important work needed in undoing the damage of these past 6 years. Resolving the Iraq fiasco is number 1 for me. I'm anxious to see what McGovern has to say on that. The idea of Gates is not sitting well with me right now -but I want to hear all the plans.

The results of the inquiries and investigations will dictate whether or not impeachment should be pursued. Having * visible and continuing in his petulant pursuit of a legacy will be a constant reminder of what needs to happen to ensure that no Unitary President from any party is ever given free rein again. Habeas Corpus, torture, the use of foreign prisons, illegal wiretapping, mid-East Peace, health care, education, social security, wages, job retention, affordable housing, and more (not necessarily in that order)- all need attention.

And - we need to be as vigilant and demanding of our Democratic leaders as we have been of the Republicans. It is the country and it's future that should remain the true concern. The election is a beginning - not an end.
