Madison Air America station turning to Fox Sports Channel in 2007
http://www.madison.com/tct/news/stories/index.php?ntid=106922

"Clear Channel Radio's Madison division announced today that talk radio station WXXM/FM 92.1, "The Mic," will drop its progressive talk format at the end of the year, including shows on the liberal radio network Air America. Effective Jan. 1, the station will be part of the Fox Sports Radio network."

Well, that just sucks.

3. Apparently people want more "sports"....
Next thing you know, they'll want more country western Nashville overproduced crap too... Fortunately, there are a couple other progressive radio stations, but it makes me want to get XM...

5. well, I have XM because my signal to 92.1 is marginal,
but I thought they were in negotiations to pick up Malloy from NovaM so I wouldn't have to be tied to my computer......

I can't believe that they would cut this off in Madison of all places. Surely there must be something we can do. It seems that the rightwing forces are not happy to just push liberal radio into bankruptcy, they really want to rub the wounds raw. Maybe they figure this is some sort of payback for Tuesday.....

6. I fear it may be a national trend with Clear Channel stations running AAR
We'll see.

I can't imagine a sports station on the FM band doing well at all. There's at least 4-5 on AM radio..and I'm sure they aren't big money makers.

They'll probably sneak in Hannity and the other freaks on the Fox Sports Channel... you can certainly bet that the Madison market will not go for that.

7. It sucks but IMHO Over the Air Talk Radio is on the downward
slope. Places where talk is listened to is the vehicle and the workplace/home. Each year more vehicles come with satellite and mp3 capability built in, and many of us listening at office/home either have satellite or internet access.

But we need to make sure we have Air America and other progressive/liberal talk available on those outlets with the ability to compete with the wingnut talkers. Speaking of which, I believe the wingnuts have saturated the market and are also on a downward slope in their ability to influence anyone beyond their most diehard koolaid drinkers.

10. I've pretty much given up on Air America.
As long as I can find a way to listen to Randi Rhodes and Mike Malloy, I really don't care what happens to Air America. They did it to themselves.
