McCain begins his '08 WH bid--and DU maybe unites?
The enemy is still out there, DU and it isn't your fellow DUer (well, not for the most part, anyway).

I can't tell you how much this Arizonan who has been represented (God help me) by him all these years, has begun to revile him after he spent years asking us to admire him for his survival in the Hanoi Hilton (and for that, I do), only to see him support torture by MY government.

He literally made certain that it was and is mentioned every time he's on local media.

Screw it--I feel like piling on one of the most hypocritical opponents we have.

Stand together, DU--and let's rip this effing louse a new one, shall we?

3. McCain would have lost this election cycle, IMO.
With the "trend" the way it was...he would have been HISTORY. He sold his soul. He sold out the military. These things come back to HAUNT you...

6. "I hate gooks"
Could be his Macaca moment.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/hongop.shtml

On his campaign bus recently, Sen. John McCain told reporters, "I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live." Although McCain said he was referring only to his prison guards, there are many reasons why his use of the word "gook" is offensive and alarming.

It is offensive because by using a racial epithet that has historically been used to demean all Asians to describe his captors, McCain failed to make a distinction between his torturers and an entire racial group.

It is alarming because a major candidate for president publicly used a racial epithet, refused to apologize for doing so and remains a legitimate contender.

10. McLame is delusional.
He really thinks that the Rethugs would nominate him and that enough Dems and Indies would vote for him. The more he talks, the more he sinks himself into his own manure.

9. Unfortunately even the GOP is not stupid enough to nominate McCain
1. The right wing hates him
2. He's 70 already, not in good health, and may not live long enough to make a run
3. He's a Senator and thus a walking target for charges of waffling, flip flopping, etc
4. Of all standing Senators who have run for President in over 100 years, only one (JFK) has ever won. And John McCain is no JFK.
5. His biggest strength is his saintly, "straight-shooter" reputation among the pundit class. If that fickle group turned against him for some minor faux pas, he'd be toast.

24. Right on #1. The right wing does hate him.
I have a retired friend who bleeds Republican and he says he will write in somebody rather than vote for McCain. I have no reason to believe that there are not many more like him out there.

My family was counting on that money! Not really but it sounds good, I can hear the ad now. Stenorian voice over "John McCain has never been one to honor his commitments, whether it be Holy Matrimony or offers of employment..."

20. This is the guy who LOST TO BUSH in the 2000 primaries...
And has spent the last eight years sucking up to the right wing. By the time he's done in the 2008 primaries, he's gonna wish he was back in the Hanoi Hilton. Republicans from both ends of the spectrum know that McCain will say anything at anytime to anyone to promote himself. They'll tear into shreds.

And we get dibs on what's left of him.

22. I supported McCain in 2000, but
this is not the same McCain. He allowed to be the first victim of Rovian "swiftboating" and he never even defended those horrid "political genius" tactics, even when his family was personally attacked.

He has no chance in 2008, he'll be eaten alive in his own GOP primary

27. I actually dont think he would be that difficult an opponent except
that he provides the media A LOT of access and that buys favorable treatment. The other thing is that he wins the confidence of Democrats. Kerry used to call him a "friend". Feingold and Obama are now calling him their "friend". Somewhere along the way hopefully they are going to realize that he is nobody's friend---A realization to come better sooner than later.
