Why I don't think Leiberman will become a Republican
If he were to do so, half the country would despise him, while the other half would love him for tipping the Senate to the Republicans. In other words, he would become a very polarizing figure, which seems to be the opposite of what he wants. It seems to me that his philosophy at this point is to be as bipartisan as humanly possible. As much as I disagree with him on some issues, I don't think he wants to be the next Zell Miller.

1. I don't think he will because
he's now part of the majority.

5. Switching would make more sense
if the Repukes were still in charge.

3. i don't think he cares about being despised by Democrats
he probably gets some enjoyment out of it. if he cared he would have supported Lamont after he lost the Primary.

the real reason he wont switch is because Democrats are likely to pick up even more seats in 2008. and it wouldn't benefit him to switch to Republican if it means being in the minority.

6. If he changes party, he loses his seniority..
and despite any repuke promises... senate tradition would be upheld.

7. It's too late - those who pay attention already know he's DINO
He lost the Dem primary, ran against and defeated the Dem candidate with overwhelming Repub support - g'bye Joe, enjoy the elephant ride to oblivion.

8. Leiberman
He supported the war, and Bush on the war, because of his Israeli connection. In most other things, he's votied for Democratic values. No, I don't like Joe Leiberman but I do believe he is a Democrat and will remain one. The Party properly supported Lamont because he was the Democratic candidate; but it's over now and Joe is what and where he is. Isn't it time to get over it and be happy about all the Dem wins?
