Is he on any committee worth mentioning? If he is not a member of the Democratic party, does that mean he is not eligible for "chairmanship" regardless of his senior status? Is this a brick that can be used against him?

1. Lieberman will retain his seniority

and will be the Chair of the Homeland Security Committee. There are no "brick(s) that can be used against him." He has all the bricks in that he can simply walk across the aisle and we're in the minority for the next two years, end of story.

2. Who decides to give him seniority since he is not a Democrat now?
He as much as said that yesterday...he is first an independent. But he was elected by Republicans.

3. Independents are required
to pick a party to caucus with and he picked the Dems which, for the purposes of Senate rules, makes him a Dem.

At least, that is my understanding. Someone more knowledgable can correct me!

6. Harry Reid would make the decision, but I'm sure the caucus could overrule him
I doubt that there is a lot of support for throwing away the majority among most Democratic Senators.

5. Whatever he wants... he has us
by the short and curlies. Slimy two-faced self-interested bastard.
I hope Nancy Pelosi doesn't kiss his butt TOO much.
