I had a chance to see Wes Clark this weekend. With less than 24 hours notice that this event was even happening, and in a totally conservative enclave, there were probably 500 people there to see him, excited, waving signs, cheering loudly.
And I really liked what he had to say. He really seemed like a genuine, intelligent man. I was surprised at how liberal some of what he's proposing is. I hadn't really given him much of a chance, because I'd read the media portrals of him as a centrist, but what he's proposing (such as educational grants, and tax breaks for the poor, subsidized health care) is more liberal than anything I've heard Kerry or Edwards or even Dean say. On top of that, he's a Rhode's scholar, with a degree in economics, and his key line in his speech was "I've forgotten more about national security than George Bush could ever learn" was dead on. I was wooed. He's the intelligent, humble, soft-spoken leader that we always complain would never run for the office. When the guy says that he'd do what he thought was right, I believe him. Moreso than any of the other candidates. I realize that he's been a Republican in the past, but not one thing he said leaned Republican. He's a Democrat through and through, and he earned my vote tomorrow. I think that we could be proud to have him be the face of America to the rest of the world.
I won't be disappointed with whoever our nominee is, but I'll be voting for Wes Clark.

If you listen to what Clark actually says, you'll find he is expressing what most of us on this board believe. I wish more people would actually listen.

I'll admit to having been sucked in by the simplistic descriptions of him, and all the hand wringing over voting for Reagan. But I don't care about what he said in the past, what he's saying now is a liberal agenda that will make this country better. I wish I'd realized it sooner.

If not in Jan 2005, then in Jan 2013, after eight great years with some other Democratic President.

5. I think if Clark had got into the race early like the others he would be |
|
way ahead now...He grows on you...The more I see and hear him, the more I like him....As a Canadian one of the things that impresses me is that he thinks of America as part of the world not as separate and above other countries like Bush and his buddies...He's a brilliant man....

Were you in Racine? Read my thread on that event, and you'll see that you weren't the only one won over!
Clark is amazing - we all have to get out there and make sure people SEE that before they throw their votes away on other candidates!

We traveled around the state this weekend, getting a chance to see Clark, Edwards and Kerry. Saw them all, and I decided that Clark is my guy.
We ended up seeing Clark in Lynchburg, VA of all places. Jerry didn't show up, but I couldn't believe how many people were there to see him. And they were excited and enthusiastic.
I'm doing what I can today, telling all my friends why they should vote for Clark. He gave a great speech, and I looked upon all 3 men, and they are all good men, but Clark embodies everything I think I could ever want in a President.

10. Well, the only way for him to |
|
'gain traction' is for people to quit whining and get out and see him and support him in any way they can! For Pete's sake! The thread about his 'failing miserably' is getting kicked all throughout the morning, while the positive ones are being ignored. It's getting as bad as the tv media around here!
CLARK SUPPORTERS, GET OFF YOUR ASS AND GET TO WORK! DO NOT GIVE UP!!!

12. There seems to be a lot of positive stuff about Clark today |
|
Seems like the people that are getting out to see him are moved by him. There is still time for him to gain some momentum. I hope to see him do well in VA and TN tomorrow, and give him a bump. If he can stick around until Super Tuesday, and get the chance to talk to voters in other parts of the country, I think he's got a shot.
So let's go Virginia and Tennessee! We need to give Clark a good showing here, to get the media paying attention!

16. This is the beauty of Clark |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 12:03 PM by Tim_in_HK
Who he is and what he's done makes him a great messenger to reach a wider swath of Americans who would agree with these policies, but get caught up in labels of 'liberal.' His message of fairness in taxes and fairness in access to healthcare (among other things) makes sense to everyone as logical outcomes of his philosophy and view of the world, and America's place in it. And it's beyond reproach. Family values equals valuing families. Period.
And much like how only Nixon could go to China, only Clark can reform military spending (N.B., after living in some rather rough spots around the world, I appreciate and demand a strong military, it's also obviously easy to see the blatant excesses that occur within it as well).
Also, how can you not love the only US military commander in modern times who took on genocide, and stayed with the fight while his commanders grew nervous about it.
on edit: and Welcome and Thank you for voting for Clark.
