Judith Miller: “I’m worried about bloggers,” |
|
From Think Progress: “I’m worried about bloggers,” says former New York Times reporter Judith Miller. “(A post) starts as a rumor and within 24 hours it’s repeated as fact.” Miller said blogs “don’t post corrections when they learn that what they have posted is wrong,” but added that she was “glad to welcome them as long as they agree to the standards.” When not helping blogs improve their correction standards, Miller peddled false intelligence from the White House and Iraqi exile Ahmad Chalabi that helped convince Americans that Iraq had WMD.

Information is king on the internet, and credibility is the crown.
Besides, what would Judy know about checking facts?

12. We MUST limit the amount of information on the Internet & it's political influence! For the Children |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-13-06 09:35 PM by GreenTea
It's become far too easy to find the truth on the Internet in so much as the television media, who know what's best for people, doesn't believe the Internet is the proper medium for news & information...and that the people really don't need to know the many things they can find & learn on the Internet.
Learning is good but, only the right kind of learning.
Without the necessary & needed regulations the Internet will change our country, because people are donating to candidates and elections that are being won by people, that before the Internet, no one ever heard of before and would never normally have a chance to win, (usually democrats) it's just not right.
We need to control the Internet for our country & our children's sake - We need to put safeguards on the Internet and allow only the big Internet sites to use up the bandwidth and push the smaller sites into oblivion, making them too long to download and as such, the "progressive" sights will then become insignificant.
We must install Internet safguards, quickly, for our future - And since the Democrats now control Congress, it's only fair to have the republicans control the Internet and choose what sites should or shouldn't be allowed bandwidth...This is for the good of our country and for the children!
God Bless!

15. Yet, somehow, within 24 hours, you can also find |
|
a long list of citations proving the original post as factual or fabricated. In a lot of ways it's self-regulating, if people bother to check beyond the first post.
Or, on the other hand, you can be Judy Miller, and write bullshit in a "mainstream" outlet and ignore it when people shoot it down for the garbage it is.
Yeah, sure.

23. Judy, as a former reporter, I worry about journalists, myself. |
|
Journalists who think that they must never find the truth in a story, but only present a he-said, she-said point of view, regardless of whether anyone is speaking the truth.
Journalists who get all their information from one source without fact-checking and attributing.
Journalists who use their considerable power to harm others rather than help.
Judy, I'm not too worried about bloggers - they at least provide sources that can be fact-checked by the reader. I'm more worried about the likes of reporters like you who deem their source the one and only and fail to give readers any viable options to decide for themselves.

28. She is just jealous! Bloggers got the story correct |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-14-06 12:07 AM by lyonn
when many doubted the hype going on in the NYT, Washington Post, etc., with proof, concerning the intel claiming Iraq had WMD's, Nukes, and conspired with Al Queda to destroy or attack the U.S. Chalibi & yellow cake hit the blogs early on and was ignored by the masses. Oh well. By the way, is she now employed?
She might try blogging, then she could be critiqued by her readers in real time. Fun huh!
