6. 16 women in the US Senate. 5 women in the Democratic leadership

Of the 15 leadership positions there are 5 women. Greater proportion of women in the Democratic Senate Leadership than there are Democratic women in the Senate. I agree this is most definitely clear progress. Of the 10 Democratic Senators who are women, half of them are in the leadership. Of the 39 Democratic Senators who are male (not including the two independents), 10 of them are in the leadership or about one quarter. Hopefully there will be more female Senators elected into seats currently held by Republicans in the 2008 election.

He waits for the President, VP, and Speaker of the House to die, so he can become President. Other than that, it's a ceremonial post, reserved for the longest-serving Senator from the majority party.
