White House mulling preemptive strikes.

Speaking with reporters about the pursuit of nuclear progams by Iran and North Korea, a senior U.S. government official told Reuters: “We, the United States, and others who might be threatened by these developments will have to look at how to respond and inevitably I think people will have to look at the question of pre-emption.” 2:35 pm | Comment (8)

12. I think you're right: it's about asserting who's in charge here
in America, and less about what happens over there.

4. priority #1 for the new Congress MUST be . . .
preventing BushCo from starting World War III . . .

because if they do, nothing else will much matter -- not global warming, not minimum wage, not Social Security, nothing . . .

5. Their strategy for dealing with a Democratic majority in Congress is predictable
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 03:33 PM by kenny blankenship
they can either capitulate OR become even more aggressive and unilateral.
So far all signals point to a continuation of the aggressive polarization. They will take steps to put the Democrats on the hot seat where they (The Democrats) will either have to confront and obstruct the President who is acting as Commander in Chief of our military during "time of war", thus steering the country towards a Constitutional crisis, or the Democrats can wuss out and let the President keep the initiative and send him all the money he asks for.

6. Oh, well
after the stellar success of invading Iraq, having Dubya swagger into Iran or North Korea...by proxy, of course, can't expose Bush or his kids to harm...the idea of more preemptive strikes is just absolutely the most rational, sane thing to do.e if his war mongering continues.:sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

I know that there are pros and cons regarding impeachment, but rather than letting Bush drag the whole world into a global war, I believe we owe it to the world to use the legal recourse of removing Bush and Cheney from power. If we don't, other countries might push for having them both tried for war crimes. He is completely insane now.

7. What real good would pre-emptive strikes do?
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 03:13 PM by MemphisTiger
If they have the plans all they have to do is rebuild it and use it on us.

If we invade we must reinstitute the draft, not very popular.

11. Israel will make sure Iran's nuclear dreams are broken
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 03:28 PM by fuzzyball
We should stand aside and let Israel handle it just
like when they pre-emted Iraq's nuclear reactors some
dozen years ago.

14. Why not?
We've subsidized Israel for decades now in order to use them as a proxy in the M.E. They should earn their keep.

(And for what it's worth, diplomacy might be a new idea worth trying.:sarcasm: )

Anyway, the threat, if it is a real threat, is to them. The U.S. simply CANNOT afford to keep launching pre-emptive attacks every time some ideological gangster flicks a booger at us. Militarily, economically, politically and morally, another pre-emptive war of choice would be catastrophic. Bush is insane.

That being said, I think this is really nothing more than Bush mouthing off to Ahmedinejad - posturing for effect - political theater. Mostly harmless.

13. This is where the leadership counts.
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 03:36 PM by God Almighty
This year, Pelosi, Hoyer and Murtha all voted in favor of attacking Iran. This is why the best leaders are Kucinich, Stark and McDermott. Other's came around by the fourth vote: Abercrombie,
Hinchey, Waters, Mckinney (who's gone for a couple of years), and Woolsey joined Dennis and McDermott in opposition to going after Iran. http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2006/roll460.xml

17. Hopefully this would be enough for people to gather at the WH
with torches and pitchforks.

While last Tuesday was a nice first step, the democracy is still in dire straits. Something like this might trigger a revolution, which is desperately needed.
