Murtha/ Hoyer ? what does the outcome mean? |
|
If Murtha wins its a signal that the more urgently anti-war members are taking power.
If Hoyer wins its a a win for the more moderate deal makers of the house, Most of the newly elected members fall into this group.
The thing with deal-makers is they seldom deliver, its their nature to compromise and achieve half to two thirds of what they set out to achieve. Thats Hoyer.
Murtha on the other hand is a leader in the sense that he's going where his conscience leads him with much less tolerance for compromise, A Murtha win would be hit to Speaker Pelosi's influence ,right out of the gate.
what do you folks think, does it even matter who is Majority Leader?

He was out stumping and raising money for a lot of the new members, probably in order to secure their promises to vote for him. I don't think that's right -- let the members get into the chamber before you start "campaigning" for Majority Leader! I'm sure a lot of them were disappointed when they learned that Murtha was also running, especially after they may have taken campaign cash from Hoyer and now feel "beholden" to him.
I'm rooting for Murtha if only because then he'll be able to give Chimperor indigestion at EVERY BREAKFAST MEETING!

4. I support Hoyer. He will win. The trashing of Murtha has really made me angry. |
|
It does matter who will be Majority Leader. I suport Hoyer, but the attacking of Murtha has really raised my ire.
I don't think that Hoyer was behind any of it. But I do think the Clinton camp is. Hillary went out of her way to attack Murtha when he spoke out against Bush's civil war in Iraq. The Clintons are very comfortable with attacking other Democrats. Hillary also weighed in with her "opinion" against John Kerry.
That's what I am taking from this.

Someone just posted that Carville is about to go on CNN and attack Howard Dean. Carville is the Clintons.

And from their POV, Pelosi and Dean and all are the enemy, or maybe rivals is the right word.
