Last night a Dem. strategist named the Dem. "dark horse candidate"
as Wesley Clark with Obama as his VP! That is the ticket I wanted for a while now! I'm just so glad someone finally mentioned Wesley Clark!

Clark is polling in the 2% range in every poll. He may have an army of DU supporters but overall, among the general US population, Clark is not even on the radar screen.

72. I recall a very obscure former governor of a small New England state,
Howard Dean, who became the MSM's front runner by the time of the primaries, mainly through his netroots support and fundraising. Wes Clark has a huge following in that theater, so if/when he runs, he will force the rest to take notice, just as dean did. Clark appeals to the same antiwar progressives.

Eye candy being only part of it. It'd be a nicely balanced ticket geographically, too. Nice divergent specialties - the older retired soldier and the younger city senator - who would be beautifully positioned for greater future leaps of his own. It would be very easy to accept especially for those who like Obama but are somewhat hesitant about his relative "lack of experience." Besides, it'd mean only one senator taken out of commission and needing replacement. Assuming, of course, the Illinois governorship remains in Democratic hands.

And wouldn't it be a relief, after that horrorshow alberto gonzales, to see John Edwards as AG?

That's how I'd play it, certainly.

Every once in a while I get a craving for Dr. Pepper. I take one sip and *bleh* I'm reminded of why I haven't had Dr. Pepper in a while.

Clark is a good man who would make a good Sec. of Def. but he's not presidential material. If he was, he would have finished better than 4th or 5th in the polls last primary season.

87. Oh you mean like when he finished 1st in Oklahoma...
You may do well to do a little reading...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wesley_Clark

"....Clark focused on winning New Hampshire, or placing second to Dean, to position himself to defeat presumed frontrunner Dean, but when John Kerry and John Edwards each placed ahead of Dean in the Iowa caucuses, they drew the media focus in the days immediately before the New Hampshire primary. Clark took third place in New Hampshire, behind New Englanders Kerry and Dean, and ahead of Edwards despite the Kerry/Edwards momentum from Iowa. The younger Clark suggested that had Clark remained a candidate in Iowa he, instead of Kerry and Edwards, might have benefited from Dean's drop in support.

Despite this setback, Clark decided to remain in the race, at least until February 3, when 8 primaries — many in the South, Clark's regional base — would be held. During the February 3 contests, he won the Oklahoma primary, making him the only candidate other than John Kerry to win a non-"home" state. He also placed second in Arizona, North Dakota, and New Mexico, giving him more second place finishes in the Feb 3rd primaries than John Edwards, who would become the eventual vice-presidential nominee. Following 3 February, he moved on to campaign in Tennessee and Virginia, states he hoped would provide him the necessary momentum to remain in the race. After placing third in the primaries in both Tennessee and Virginia, he withdrew from the race on February 11, 2004. Clark announced his endorsement of John Kerry at a rally in Madison, Wisconsin on February 13th.<8>"

Fourth or Fifth indeed.

Except...

Since Obama is a credible rising star and still comparatively young, he'll get his shot at the title anyway. I'd rather see Gore in the WH with Clark this time around. For my money, they would build a formidable progressive power block -intellectually and politically.

At any rate, I'm down with Clark. He's been my guy since the 2004 primaries.

70. MSNBC, I think....
I'm guessing this is the same segment that "zoey" posted about over at CCN:

"I saw a segment on MSNBC this morning talking about the 08 Presidential hopefulls. It was with Monica Crowley(R) and someone called Sasha, I think. When talking about Hillary, Sasha said she thought the darkhorse candidate she thinks could win would be Wes Clark because the election will be all about National Security. She went on to say she would like Barack Obama as Clark's running mate. Clark wasn't even on the list to be discussed. That is a really good sign."

Don't really care who the VP is for either man, actually, though I would sooner bet than it will be Ralph Nader than Obama. Could people please stop posting that? He's been a senator for like, five minutes. And he made some promises to his constituents that he obviously cares more about keeping than almost anything else (and, hey, good on him, there; I don't love Obama overly much, but at least he's consistent and capable of adhering to campaign platforms). I sincerely doubt we're going to see him abandon the good people who elected him for a mad dash to the White House at this very, very early date.

Making this banner was the first thing I did after completing my gloating about the election.

I think it's our strongest ticket because they'd be hardest for the Repubs to attack and they aren't totally dependent on mainstream media recognition. All they have to do is re-institute the 50-state strategy, and they won't be dark horses long.

43. Clark/Stabenow or Clark/Sebelius...
...could also make inroads.

Although I'm sure many (including myself) like the idea of Clark/Feingold.

66. I don't think Clark would pick a torture appeaser like Stabenow
I'd love to see a female candidate on the ticket in either slot, but not her.

54. What we conceive, we can achieve....
This is still America, where all is possible with determination, perspiration, perseverance and singleness of purpose and laserbeam focus. I ain't givin' up on a damn thing!

As an immmigrant to this land, I didn't necessarily think that I'd end up with a kid at Harvard....but I never felt that it was impossible.....and so she's there.

53. Maybe some "Strategist" are taking off the blinders!
Considering the times in this world today, I don't even understand why it took so long for some of these "strategist" to wake the fuck up!

Here we have a Progressive Plato Quoting schomski readin' Rhode Scholar Southern General who has shown prescience time and time again. Someone whose brokered lasting peace, and planned, led and won a war without a soldier dying. A man regarded as head of state for three years who communicated with the heads of states of 37 countries. A guy who has lived in England, Belgium and South America and speaks 4 languages. An expert in Emergency preparedness to boot! someone respected all over the world. Who came from an imporverished single mother background and realized the American Dream all the while serving his country with Duty and Honor.

He can rebuild a motor (cause he had to), talk about science without notes or consultation, and

He's lined up a team to combat Swiftboating and the man is ready to go. With his intellect and strength, things would only get better.

Oh.....and Obama ain't bad either! :)

59. That would be a great ticket.
But you would have 2 guys with very little governing experience. Clark has none and Obama has extremely little on the federal level.

68. Clark has governed, although not in an elected position.....

From 1997, Clark headed the U.S. European Command, responsible for over 100,000 U.S. troops, their families, health care, education, social services, and all related infrastructure, and all American military activities in 89 countries and territories of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He simultaneously held the separate NATO position of Supreme Allied Commander (SACEUR), which granted him Head of State status and overall command of NATO military forces in Europe and leadership of approximately 60,000 troops from 37 NATO and other nations in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

He served as Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. European Command (CINCEUR). As stipulated by international treaty, he simultaneously held the position of Supreme Allied Commander (SACEUR), which is a NATO position that is independent of the U.S. chain of command, but always held by an American. As SACEUR, Clark also held Head of State status requiring meeting with other heads of state, and control over international NATO forces. (Supreme Allied Commander of NATO was the same position held by Eisenhower immediately prior to his becoming President of the United States.)

60. I like both of these guys
However, I cannot think of a pair who would be more suseptible to the trap of leaning too heavily on consultants and polls. Clark never elected to office before and a (barely) one term Senator?

It would be like reliving 04 where Kerry, in his over-board cautionary tendancies, made those same two glaring mistakes. Wishing for this ticket is wishing to relive that nightmare.

I'd rather see one of them as VP to Gore. I'd go with Clark out of the two.

65. Very good! The news pundits have
tried to winnow the field to Hillary, Edwards and Obama.

I am with Kerry, but really like Clark too. I am actually torn between Wes Clark and Al Gore as my second choice. I love Clark's positions and his loyalty to the other democrats.

Wes served under Clinton can someone assure me that he is not a Clinton loyalist?

I decided today after watching Matthews and Olbermann last night and thinking over all the noise and attacks on Kerry, Murtha, and media ignoring of Clark that I agree with others that it is important to BREAK THE BUSH-CLINTON-BUSH-CLINTON cycle.

Or that is what they say. Wow, what an inspiring ticket, though!
I'd say the darkhorse, believe it or not, is Bill Richardson. Not that I think he'll win it.

Edited on Thu Nov-16-06 01:53 PM by DixieBlue
the only thing that could make me happier would be a Gore/Obama ticket with Clark, when the Dems win, becoming Sec of State. I'm a Gore fan before Clark ... but if Gore's not in, then Clark's my man.

82. Take my breath away...
IF Clark won, it would POTENTIALLY usher in an era of change like nothing we've ever seen. I wonder...

How long has it been since we've had a president from neither a governorship or Congress??? (Where did Ford come from, anyway...)

Do you think he'd have a chance on earth of gutting some of the congressional perks?
