Once again a reminder: DEMOCRATS DID NOT RECEIVE $$ FROM ABRAMOFF

Not a single democrat there.

The democrats did receive donations from American Tribes, some of which had associations with Abramoff but not necessarily made because of Abramoff. If you're a senator or representative who happens to try and do good works for the Native Americans (Like Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island) you might be on the receiving end of donations.

The scandal, in a nutshell:

Abramoff was funnelling money he received from Indian Tribes who turned to Abramoff in hopes of getting favors to have their casinos opened. Abramoff worked with Rick Reed (fundie nut-job from Georgia); Reed is 'anti-casino' and would lobby against competitive tribes who were trying to open up casinos against Abramoff tribes. The money that the Tribes were donating to Abramoff were funnelled back into many many Republican candidates and PACS. Abramoff never donated to Democrats, couldn't stand them.

Welcome to the new Democratic Majority - republicans are gonna pull every dirty trick in the book to try and get back the majority. If you're in congress, a democrat and even JAY-WALKED illegally you're past will come back to haunt you!

EDIT NOTE:

For even more details (because trust me, there is alot I didn't mention like Marianas Island) you can get a better summary here

3. A brief addendum to your nutshell if I may...
Abramoff also solicited rival tribes who already had casinos and told them he would lobby the same officials to prevent opening of the very casinos he was telling the first tribe he would help them open.

5. I added the Wikipedia link which has the best details
Not only with the Indian Tribes but Sun Cruz and the Mariana Islands.

I mean, dems are going to get battered over this and hopefully we'll hold tight. In 2008, there are way more republicans up for re-election than democrats so hopefully we can maintain our majority PLUS get the investigations done that we need to show the country how fake this war really is!

10. For the life of me, I can't understand why Sun Cruz isn't a bigger deal
It is juicy, has mobs, murder, cruise ships, beaches, politics, money, greed, fake wire transfers, fraud ulent loans, purchased comments on the Congressional Record...and yet, crickets...I know the MSM is complicit, but damn, this thing is a fun scandal. HOW is this not a bigger deal?

Mariana is just sad, sad, sad. That is going on around the world in some extent or another as a result of American hegemony, I'm afraid.

6. Keep this kicked, boys and girls.
In the upcoming mess, the facts may not matter to the kool-aid guzzlers, but they should matter to us. So let's remember them.

that Dean gave (I think it was) Wolfie when he tried to imply that Dems were "just as guilty". . .
Did anyone archive it?

11. The local city paper where I live, kept saying Dems took money
from Abramoff, but never gave any names.

Just kept saying "plenty of Dems took money too."

One reason I stopped buying the paper.

Look. There may not have been any improprieties, but some Dems DID take $$$ (or things of value) from Abramoff.

I think it makes us look bad when we insist that we "took no $$$" when, in fact, we did.

15. And furthermore
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=2401380

Indian tribes represented by Abramoff decreased their contributions to Dems.

I can't believe this one is making the rounds again.

19. It's worth repeating
The first time I heard the news on Abramoff being "tied to Dems", I was very confused considering I had read about his close ties to the republican party.

As a few have explained, it was his goal, as well as that of DeLay's and Norquist's to turn K-Street completely republican. That was what the K-street project was all about. Abramoff is about as "bipartisan" as Grover Norquist or Tom DeLay.
