Timeline of wins, firsts, and upsets - please add
what happened where you live.

This is a quickly compiled list of wins from the midterms. Please add to the list of election "firsts," sweeps, squeaks, and upsets from your state and local races.

In addition to taking the House and Senate, there was a Democratic upswell nationwide which is barely reported by the corporate media. There were also many "firsts" and upsets, a couple of which I tried to find, that are deftly being hidden. Let's see how many we can list here.

November 7, 2006 - Democrats take the house! - Senate looks close.

Ohio - Democrat Jennifer Brunner becomes first woman Secretary of State.

Minnesota - Democrat Keith Ellison elected as the nation's first Muslim member to the US Congress.

3 anti-choice referenda on ballots nationwide; all 3 are soundly defeated.

7 of 8 newly elected Senate Democrats are pro-choice.

21 of 28 newly elected House Democrats are pro-choice.

2 million more young people (18-29) vote in 2006 midterms than voted in the last midterm elections.

Democratic Governorships outnumber republican 28 - 22.

North Carolina - The first Black woman, Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson ever to serve on the North Carolina state’s Supreme Court convincingly won her election to the post in a statewide election.

New Hampshire - Democrats take simultaneous control of the governor's office, the state Senate and the House for the first time since 1874, and flipped both U.S. House seats to the Democratic party as well.

November 8, 2006 - Rumsfeld out

November 9, 2006 - Democrats take the Senate!

November 14, 2006 - Senator Harry Reid, officially elected Senate Majority Leader

November 16, 2006 - Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, officially and unanimously elected first women Speaker of the House.

P.S. Let know if I goofed dates, or names, or...ya know. If it's within the window of time I'm allowed to edit, I'll update.
