Putnam (R-FL) Wants To Know: Where Were the Rednecks? ("white rednecks" blamed for '06 losses)
“White rednecks” who “didn’t show up to vote for us” partly cost GOPers their cong. majorities, Rep. Adam Putnam (R-FL) told fellow Republicans today. And Putnam, seeking the post of GOP conference chair, chided ex-Chair J.C. Watts (R-OK) for ruining the conference’s ability to serve its members....

Examining the 2006 midterms, Putnam blamed the GOP defeat on “the independent vote, the women vote, the suburban vote.” He said that “heck, even the white rednecks who go to church on Sunday didn't come out to vote for us.”

2. Yo Putnam, I'm a white redneck
I was in the voting booth here in Mississippi voting for my democratic congressman Gene Taylor who got elected. That's where I was!

You may talk about 'liberty' and stuff like that, Mr Putnam, the actions of your party are something quite the opposite.

8. The "rednecks" showed up...
And voted for their own interests this time. Not for your bigotry and fear.

That said, I'm sure some of the people who Putnam classifies as "rednecks" did vote for the same ol'. However enough of them saw the light, plust the independents came out in droves, and voted for Democrats.

In other words, Putnam, they showed up, but you still lost.

9. To Putnam's credit,
at least he got Watts' name right, and didn't call him "Macaca."

10. the "white rednecks" were in the voting booth, electing Democrats...
The past several years have not been kind to working class Americans of any color. Nov. 7th, 2006 was the day we finally did something about that.

11. White Redneck...but I repeat myself.
Who ever heard of a Black, Hispanic or Chinese Redneck? All rednecks are white because rednecks are the ones who are racist. They might even look rich, drive a Hummer...but they're still a redneck.

18. It's YOUR opinion that redneck=racist. There are

rednecks who are racist and rednecks who aren't racist.

And not only whites are racist, either.

19. "Redneck" is a very popular term around here.
Many people seem to think that classism is perfectly OK. Folks who would sooner tear out their tongues with red-hot pliers than utter any other kind of slur seem to have no problem with class epithets.

15. The necks got red from laboring outdoors in the sun...
It's an anti-labor slur. Perfect for a member of the party of the idle rich to use.
An honest 'neck oughta never vote Republican; it's against their class interest.

23. Sure blame the voters, that'll win them back
:eyes:

They blame people for not voting for them, does Putnam not understand the concept of elections? If you lose in a relatively fair election then you mostly have your own side to blame.

24. I hope Putman goes on a national tour
with his new message.

Hell, if I had money, I'd pay for it.

The term is affectionate when used amongst rednecks (like a Jeff Foxworthy routine), but it is not appreciated when it is uttered by someone clearly NOT a redneck, like Mr. Putnam. There are other words that are treated similarly in different groups.

Typical elitist Republican stupidity.
