James Carville on Marriage: I do what I'm told
"If any man has ever won a marital argument, I haven't met him. I'm 0 for 5,211 in my marriage, and I'm sure to lose 5,212, thanks to a theory I like to call SCR: surrender, capitulation, and retreat. I've read all the marital advice - you know, confront your issues, discuss them. My advice is just to leave 'em go. I know couples who've been having the same discussion for 35 years. It ain't worth it. Women know how to fight better. I think part of it is - to put it delicately - biological, but you're going to be a lot happier just agreeing and doing what you're told. These days the only fight my wife and I have is when she'll say to me, "You're just agreeing with me to agree with me!" And most of the time it's true. But I'm a happily married man. It'll be 13 years this month. What can I say?"

(From "O" magazine, 11-06, page 286)

Now, why the @#$!* should anybody listen to this guy?

He's so compliant he gets yelled at for being compliant!

Nice knowing you, James.

1. It's called picking your battles, James...
I don't argue with MY wife very often, but when I do, I win about 50% of the time. Okay, 40%.

I sure as hell don't lose ALL the time. 'Course, I could give a donkey stubbornness lessons.

What a sad, pathetic little man.

2. I wonder if she told him to criticize Howard Dean -
And did he argue with her about it?

3. That sure presents a strange picture, doesn't it?
"Okay, attack Howard Dean..."

"Ummm. Why?"

"Because I said so?"

"What if I don't want to?"

"You want to sleep on the couch?"

"Okay, you win."

It's a wonder the man can even walk erect, considering he shows no evidence of a spine.

16. I've often thought that men argue better than women
Definitely my son argues better thanthe women in his life

But hey! maybe I am just a horrible debater.

And I never debate the Repukes because they can win just by lying ("No uh see the real reason that we stink in IRaq is because when Pres Clinton sent the troops over there, in mid-2000...")

6. I've just lost what little respect I may have had left for this dork
I would never want to be with a man who couldn't stand up for himself against me. I find it a real turn off to see a man grovel and scrape.

7. Sorta like being a corporate whore in the DLC eh James?
I don't know why he decided to jump from this ledge, but upon evaluating him on the way down, I can't wait to see the splatter.

Always had a seed of doubt due to his marital choice. His attack on Dean sunk him. His marriage comments are just flat SAD.

Oh well, you can see where our party got their appeasement strategy from.

8. OK, this'll be really politically incorrect, so please forgive me for the illustration:

But seriously folks...I say this only because I think marriage should be between two equals. Neither the woman NOR the man should have to be the one to knuckle under all the time. Surely there will be times when each of them is wrong and the other is right. Carville sounds like he just capitulates under all circumstances, right or wrong. Which doesn't say a whole lot for him. And I'd feel the same way if he were a woman who never argued with her husband but always believed he was right.

9. Gee, are we surprised?
I question trusting advice coming from a guy who ADMITS his wife browbeats him into submission on a regular basis(approximately 400 times a year)...after that, what validates him as an individual???

They sure have lost their sense of humor. Carville was joking, people do that.

11. Frankie has new talking points now, that one didn't work.
You'll want to sign up for the waitlist for his new book, due in January.

Yeah, right. DUers have no sense of humor. Mm-hmm.

and can you blame people for womdering in this case?

Hey, don't you have a sense of humor?

14. For the record -
I don't hate James Carville. I'm sad for him and I'm sad for the damage he's caused to our party over the years.

Don't be afraid.

15. You said it much more nicely than I did. I don't hate him, I just wish he'd
put the party ahead of his own ambition.
