Connecticut State Rep Diana Urban Switches Party to Dem
http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/11/how_many_others.html

More proof that New England Republicans are in danger of taking up permanent residence at the margins comes this morning when a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives switches from Republican to Democrat. North Stonington Republican Diana Urban, elected to a fourth term two weeks ago, often voted with Democrats in the legislature. Her departure from the ranks of the GOP reduces their number to 44 of 151.

Urban enjoyed a flurry of attention last summer when she launched a quixotic bid to run for the United States Senate as a petitioning candidate. She failed to collect the number of signatures required.

Why Urban waited until two weeks after the election to tell the voters of her district that she would no longer be a Republican is a question members of the GOP will be posing to Urban.

2. Didn't Norm Coleman once run as a Dem and then changed his affiliation?
In other words, the freepers have nothing to say. The game works both ways.

Maybe people ought to work together and put the game back into storage?

5. And when she's asked why she changed after the election
... she should tell the GOPhers to go ask Ben Nighthorse Campbell.

7. This is going to sound weird
but in the big picture, typically Northeast Republicans are not the worst thing, and it's a shame they've been forced out of their own party, ceding it to the nutjobs. Your typical Northeastern Republican used to be dependably socially progressive and fiscally responsible (sound like a lot of Dems these days?). And if that party was run by those people, the whole country would be in better shape.

OTOH, if it means the nutjobs have even less power, I guess it's a good thing.
