Poll question: What does America need more? A Conservative Dem or Liberal Republican?
If Mark Warner ran, he would be the model conservative Democrat for most issues. It has been a while since a real liberal REpublican ever got close to being President. If you had the choice between a liberal candidate(ie Bloomberg, Snowe, maybe Chaffee) and a conservative Democrat, who would you choose?

I personally think our nation would do really well if a Republican President helped move our country much farther to the left, rather than a Democrat who would oppose most progressive policies. Remember, TR was a Republican, at first. Name only means so much....

3. I see the logic in your thinking in this, but we're not ready for a liberal Repub or a Cons, Dem ...
We need a liberal Democrat to move us back with PRESSURE.

On the other hand, the country is in in such deep, deep shit, that maybe a Liberal Republican is a good thing for 08. Let them take the heat for the hard work it will take to get our country back on at least the peth to recovery. But that's the politically pragmatic side of things.

My gut wants a true lefty in the top job. Someone who will work toward making progress in moving the country back from the cliff at the right margin, and a little closer to the similar cliff that exists over there at the left margin.

4. A conservative Democrat
I think a conservative Democrat is a better consensus builder, whereas a liberal Republican can be overly partisan and bow to the far right-wing.

6. Liberal Republicans are a vanishing species
and have been marginalized by their own party. It would be near impossible for one to even be nominated, much less elected, unless they were willing to do business with the Dark Side of the GOP-in other words, they would be a front for a conservative/fascist agenda.

8. Neither. That's what they think they want.
What they NEED is a gungho trustbusting liberal who will reshape the financial and social framework so that the nation is FOR THE PEOPLE, not for the corporations which MIGHT be for the people on occasion.

10. I prefer a conservative Democrat who is open to some Liberal ideas.
A conservative Democrat has one great advantage over a Liberal one--that person is far more likely to actually be elected President as opposed to losing 40 states. I prefer to face reality as opposed to living in Never-Neverland.

14. That would be GREAT!!!
Until that happens - and it may be sooner than anyone thinks!, I'd assume it would be best to get the most liberal of the candidates, regardless of party. That being said, I would guess that any Republican who could win a national primary would be to the right of any Democrat who could win a national primary; so that the dilemma wouldn't arise.

15. I'm with you!
We definitely don't need more of the same that got us into the current mess (which is where the choices posed in this poll would lead us). If only we could clone more Bernie Sanders.

20. The last three Dem presidents we've had have been conservatives.
And the liberal Republicans were hunted to extinction in the '70s and '80s.
