Dean will NOT drop out after WI |
|
I just heard on Inside Politics that his campaign is now saying they will continue past Wisconsin regardless of the results. No link yet. Like I say, just heard it on Inside Politics on CNN. If anyone gets a link or hears something else. post it!!

He never said he was dropping out, the media did. What he did say was he would stay in the race as long as his supporters wanted him to, but that he needed to win wisconsin to realistically have a shot at the nomination. His supporters overwhelmingly want him to continue to the convention regardless, providing he has the financial resources.

10. You sound a little worried, my mortal friend |
|
Do you want Kerry to earn the nomination, or do you want a select few to make that decision for everyone else?
Bottom line is that the majority of delegates have yet to be claimed, and while Kerry is obviously leading in delegates, Dean remains a strong #2 in that number, which is all that matters in Boston. I don't see you calling for the other candidates to drop out, so why should Dean?

Not to take cheap shots.
By the way, Dean never said he was going to drop out. The media broke the story themselves -- Dean never said he was planning to drop out after Wisconsin.

29. Again, the media puts the words in Deans mouth |
|
and then claims he's changing his tune.
He said that Wisconsin is a must-win. Not that he would drop out.
I hope he stays until the end.
Those so-called pot-shots he took at bush* for the last year are now Kerry's stump speech.
If he takes "pot-shots" at Kerry and Kerry is the candidate, he will be stronger for it. If he can't take it, then he shouldn't be int he race.
Dean is making me real GLAD.

It appears the transformation from front-runner to protest candidate is now complete.
Dean, Sharpton, and Kucinich will be battling for last place until the convention!

He's a loyal Dem. Maybe he wants to wait until Kerry is actually closer to clinching the nomination, or he's doing this to keep his supporters happy a little bit longer.

Man alive. Isn't this what the primary system is supposed to be about? TO ive the whole country a say in picking the best candidate? What does Kerry have to fear? It's beginning to get a little scary how much fellow democrats want everyone to fall in line. ANY DEMOCRAT can beat Bush, not just the anointed one.
Isn't this the kind of closed-off unilateralism we despise about Bush and the Republicans? Aren't we fighting to have more voices heard? Aren't we supposed to stand up for what we believe?

You are exactly right. It's disturbing how desperate people are to claim Kerry as the winner and shut everyone else down -- after only a tiny percentage of the voters have had their say.

We need their voices and the people need to have a choice. I have not however felt pressure to fall in line. BUT, you are right.

Even with all his victories. I'll bet Kerry is still lagging behind Dean in fundraising (especially if you include the $6M debt that his campaign has to repay)

How the comments are made that Dean, Kucinich and Sharpton will be battling for last place when it's currently Kerry, DEAN, Edwards, Clark and so on.
Dean = Second Edwards = Third Clark = Fourth 1 2 3 4 One more time...............1 2 3 4

He simply peaked too early. Now he's just hanging around to spite everyone. Satisfying in the short-term, I'm sure...but damaging to the party in the long run.

31. One advantage to staying in |
|
would keep attention focused on the primaries. As soon as he drops out, coverage will disappear.
The longer it goes on, the longer the airwaves are filled with snippets from many contenders about how bad Bush is. As soon as it is "settled", we will have to pay to get anti-Bush statements on the air.
Also, the longer he stays in, the longer Nader will have to wait before scresing things up -- again. Maybe so long, he cannot get on many ballots.

|
should stay in. Democracy in action.
I have a question though. How come Dean complained that Mc Auliffe wasn't protecting him from sniping from the media and the other upstarts in the race when he was the front runner ? And this was before he had won one delegate in a primary/caucus. But I haven't heard Kerry whining about taking hits from the other candidates or saying any of them should drop out even after he has won 10 of 12 so far.

|
I smell a third party on the horizon. Now, that would really help, just as it did in 2000.
If he doesn't drop out after Wisconsin, not having won one itty bitty primary, I hope he has the decency to leave the scene gracefully. Dean does have a future in politics. He is relatively young and did an important thing--forcing the party to grow a spine.
If he stays in, he will become another Nader. Not pretty, and not good for the party. If he leaves, he has the option and the following to fight another day. And he could possibly be looking at a Cabinet seat with a Kerry victory.

Kerry does not yet have the delegates to win the nomination. Keeping a real race going until some really does have it wrapped up gives all of us a chance to talk to others about our candidates and the fight to win back our country from the Busheviks. I am fired up! YEEEEAAARRGGHH!
