Howard Dean opens Liberal Party convention
MONTREAL --Liberal Party delegates from across Canada marched to Montreal on Wednesday to open their convention and choose a new leader, a man they hope can unseat Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper and renew their faith in a party that has lost its focus.

As the Liberals struggle to regain their confidence and drive -- having lost to Harper's Conservatives in January after 12 years in power -- they've turned to a man from south of the border for inspiration. U.S. Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean will open the convention Wednesday night with a keynote address about how to reverse their party's fortunes.

An estimated 5,500 delegates will begin casting their first ballots on Friday, after the eight candidates give their speeches. The balloting will continue Saturday, if necessary, until one of the candidate secures 50 percent of the votes.

3. Proof that Howard Dean's credibility extends beyond the U.S. progressive...

6. He graciously gave credit for the win to everyone....
Emphasized it was a joint effort. It sort of brought a tear to see the appreciation, because he never looked back after he lost.

9. These are genuine liberals?

I'm not terribly well up on Canadian politics - are their Liberals also liberals, unlike Australia where the Liberals are actually the conservatives, most unsportingly, or here in the UK where the Liberals are the centrists?

Given that they've invited Dean to speak, I'm guessing these really are liberals, though?
