O'Reilly: "It doesn't matter whether there is a civil war there— that's a media-driven situation"

The Truth About Iraq

Friday, December 01, 2006

By Bill O'Reilly

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,233598,00.html

First of all, it doesn't matter whether there is a civil war there — that's a media-driven situation. What does matter is if the USA can control the situation in Iraq or whether the country is too far gone into the chaos zone. If the Bush administration has failed there, here are the consequences for you:

One, Iran will increase its power and begin to dominate the world's oil flow. That means, if Iran tells Gulf Arab nations to charge $100 a barrel, they better do it or risk Iran undermining them with terrorism. And Saudi Arabia will be the No. 1 target. All Americans will be at Iran's mercy then when it comes to oil. Think about that. No. 2, Al Qaeda would also benefit. It would proclaim a great victory over America and set up shop inside of Iraq, working out a lose agreement with Iran. Al Qaeda terrorists then would have another sanctuary, like Afghanistan before we took out the Taliban. No. 3, no one could stop Iran from getting nukes because of the oil threat. So they develop doomsday weapons and give them to whomever. So you can see that allowing Iraq to go under would be a catastrophe for the world.

But if the Iraqi people will not step up and fight for their freedom, there's little the USA can do. We can't stabilize the country without most Iraqis on our side. And right now, they are not on our side. Therein lays the biggest foreign policy problem I have ever seen in my lifetime.

Back here, we have a press that is invested in seeing that President Bush is humiliated in Iraq. They may not be rooting for an American defeat, but most are certainly anti-war and anti-Bush. And then there are those Americans who dislike the president so much they want the USA to lose?

1. Well it is all George Bush's fault.
He is the one who started this idiotic occupation in Iraq. He is the one that has destabilized the entire Middle East. The entire thing is his doing. Stupid Bill O'Liar. He could not find his way out of a paper bag. I can't believe people watch that idiot. I could care less if the Iraqi's are left with their dignity at this point. I am more concerned with the troops and hope that they do not feel they are dying for nothing. Declare victory, leave Iraq and throw a big welcome home celebration for our troops. We are not critical of the war because we hate Bush. We are critical of Bush because we hate the war!!

3. Pretty interesting how he links two completely different ideas...
...on one hand, if you "dislike" Bush...for whatever reason, and there are many...in O'Reilly's world, you cannot let your "dislike" get in the way of our "winning"...

But what the hell is "winning" at this point, anyway?

"Democracy" for the purple-fingered, freedom-lovin' 'racky people?

That's Karen Hughes / Karl Rove manufactured P.R. tripe.

"Defeating" the "insurgents?"

We created the insurgents by invading Iraq. As long as we're there, the supply of "insurgents" will be never-ending.

But it all comes down to loving the Commander-In-Chief, eh? Don't question him, don't "dislike" him...especially when we are "at war"...which, according to Bush's own projections, will last as long as he remains in office...

The older I get, the more I understand the Boston Tea Party.

6. Very good points!
What is winning at this point? To me it would be to get our troops out of there immediately so that not ONE more soldier comes home in a coffin or without his/her legs blown off. But I know that is never going to happen. We can not win over there. There is nothing to win anyway.

17. the only way to completely defeat the insurgents
is to kill all the Iraqi people. That would defeat the whole purpose just a little bit.

2. Is O'Reilly still alive?
I thought the old suckwad was long gone.

Dayum. I don't know ONE single person who watches, listens, or even talks about the nasty old bastard!!! NO ONE! The SOB isn't even mentioned here on DU anymore.

I seriously thought he was BURIED and GONE.

4. I haven't watched him since the 2004 elections...or anyone on Fox, for that matter.
In 2004 I knew I could not stomach the sight of Sean Hannity taking "victory laps" if Bush took a second term. I haven't tuned into Fox since two days before the 2004 election.

But I still have a fascination for the Falafel King and his penchant for taking the "Bush Haters" to task. Call it comedy relief, but there's something fascinating about the Fox dynamic. I enjoy observing "what makes people tick." For some it may be a simple case of fanaticism, but for others...especially people like O'Reilly...I think it's a chronic need to be in the spotlight, an extreme narcissistic drive that causes him to issue fatwa after fatwa after fatwa that only the "Fox Fans" will care about.

I don't "hate" Bush, for the record. I don't "respect" him, either, and I certainly don't "applaud" his "accomplishments."

I see him for what he is...a son of privilege, a spoiled frat boy, a man with deep Oedipal issues, a dry drunk, a puppet of the NeoCon remnants of his daddy's administration.

I don't hate him. I just look forward to 2008...so much that it hurts.

7. Well, Mr. "warrior", why don't you just fly on over there, lose the TV cameras,
and show the Iraqis how to do it?

11. That's the kind of dumbass thinking that got us stuck in Iraq in the first place.
It's blatant ignorance.

If it's a civil war- and it IS- then we need to figure out how to get them to stop fighting if we're going to "accomplish our mission."

That is, if there is any way to do that. Which there probably isn't.
